    Hi all,
I wonder whether one of you could help me out in my decision to play a BJT with the following payouts:
    buy in 5.000, max 28 players, advance 1st round 5 out of 7, 2nd 4/7, 3rd 3/7. Prices 1st 70.000, 2nd 25.000, 3rd 15.000, 4th 9.000, 5th 8.000, 6th 7.000 and 7th 6.000.
I hesitate because its really expensive, but the chances are not so bad, OR ARE THEY?
Thanks and greetings from cold Luxembourg.

    Bluelight/Favrad

Bluelight: If the buyin was $500, then that was the GN $100,000 tourney. The one I played in was a $50,000. Typical format is: 1 of 6 advance first round, one rebuy available; second round is 1 of 5 advance; third round is 1 of 4 advance; typically; based on numbers in field. Lots of wild cards for each round to fill up the tables to that level. Usually close to 200 entrants. So I was expecting 5 players at my table, but we had an extra with the comped highroller, thereby reducing our chances to advance. And she said she was COMPED in, not through a wild card drawing. Pit boss did not dispute that, just quickly moved her to another table. Maybe they got complaints again?

Favrad: with 28 players @ $5,000, that's $140,000 in buyins, they are paying out $140,000, so this is an even equity tournament. So casino is making no money on it, unless there is an entry fee you didn't mention. I like multiple players advance format, so do most experienced players, I think. As for your chances, that depends on your skills. If you are a better than average player, you have an edge, and this is a positive equity tournament for you. If you are below the tournament average in skills, you probably will lose money..

    I understand:
    Round 1: 4 tables, 5 out of 7 = 20 + 1 wild card
    Round 2: 3 tables, 4 out of 7 = 12 + 2 wild cards
    Round 3: 2 tables, 3 out of 7 = 6 + 1 wild card
    Round 4: 1 table,

Can you tell us more about what the rules will be for this tournament?
    Example:
    1. How many hands
    2. Starting bankroll
    3. Bet limits, min. & max.
    4. BJ payoffs (3/2 or 2/1)
    5. Is surrender offered
The above are the most important, but check on insurance, splitting, double downs, double downs after splits, will the hands rotate?

If you can answer these questions I'm sure we can help you.

    Hi TXtourplayer,
this is European rules, no rebuy
    1. 28 hands,
    2. 5.000
    3. 100-5000
    4. 3/2
    5. no
You can split up to 3 times, doubling after split allowed, hands rotate, playing with 8 decks, probably shuffle machine like nearly 100 % in Europe now (UFF).
Instead of wild cards, they advance the best scores out of the not qualified participants.
I thought the most interesting part of this tournament is the only 28 participants. I have some experience, won a few smaller tournaments (5000/6000/10.000 first place).
    Cheers and thanks

    What casino?

I'd start out with low bets (from $100 min. to half what the other players are betting). With so many players advancing in each round you don't have to focus on winning the table, just staying in the top half of the players at your table at the end of the 28 hands.

You need to understand that you don't always have to double down or split your hand, sometimes not betting them is the better play. The less you have at risk the less you can lose. No need betting high unless you need to.

On the later hands, if you are one of the top players you can just match the players bets that are chasing you (unless they can't catch you, then just bet small).

Pay attention to where you're going to be betting on the last hand. If you're one of the first betting it is normally better to take the high. If your betting later I'd suggest keeping back more chips then the others (taking the low), you could always DD if needed. Now if you're behind and you know you're going to have to get all your money in to advance split your bankroll instead of betting a max bet. This will give you not only DD option, but you'll be able to split if needed.

This is a high entry fee, but if you understand tournament play and can afford the $5,000 you should have a good chance to advance to the final table with any luck.

These are pretty basic rules and advance, hope they help. Good luck and let us know how you do.

TXtourplayer, thanks. Just one correction: the bankroll is 25.000, min 200 max 5000. But I don't think it will change a lot. DD is only allowed on 9, 10 or 11 by the way.
Tomorrow morning, I'm off to New Orleans, will try the Harrah's because I have to go there anyway.

    Where is the event?

Favrad I forgot to ask where the event is being held. I know you said it has European rules, but know I see your going to be at NO this weekend. At first I had just assumed you were in Europe and that is where the event would take place and is the event open or invite only?

While you're at NO try to find Ken Smith and ask him about the tournament as well, in person he can answer more questions for you.

    Good luck in both tournaments.

    Moved This Thread

This thread got off the original topic, "killing the tournaments." So I started a new thread and moved it here.
