blackjack Tournaments in UK

For the last 2 weeks I have been in private talks with interested parties in organizing Blackjack tournaments within the UK which could more or less be open to the general public.

I have a major Group of Casino's also interested but this would put certain restrictions on the events that from experience I am trying to avoid.

To Keep European members updated the most likely way forward is in talks with one of the biggest Hotel Chains, Although in a way they are trying to distance themselves from the event there only interest being selling drinks on the nights.

The Event would be doing a circuit of the Home Counties at their Hotel locations, Under the Gambling Act of 2005 which replaced parts of the 1976 Amusement and Lotteries Act there are provisions for fun Casinos to be able to operate on non licensed premises,
To keep within the many regulations the organizer can not make profit from the event but may cover setup costs,
In the pursuit of furthering BJT in UK/Europe i have no problem with this part, Prizes can be upto £25,000 and there are rules which mean events prizes can not be effected by number of entries so advance figures of people taking part would be needed.

The tables will be organized by a Fun Casino company who would also have Poker and other events happening at the same time, They currently have over 30 BJ tables and access to UK Croupiers who are Cruise ship trained so have no hang ups about surrender etc.

Although this is still in early stages I have spoken to 2 local Councils already and am also hoping to get changes put forward which will change BJT to a defined Skill Game Category within the Uk.

I will keep everyone updated on any developments with this, And welcome any input from European Members.

If you get them to do this can you "persuade" them to hold 2-3 tourneys at the same time? Kinda like the Tulsa events or the upcoming TBJPA deal?

With more than 1 BJT it may be feasible for us "yanks" to fly across the Pond.

This also is something I am looking at, There are so many pitfuls in Uk Gambling law you would honestly end up a mad man trying to comply, There are parts of the act that prohibit multi day events under lottery laws but allow it under Event laws, There is also a totally different way to do this which is to get a temporary licence, this allows any venue for a max of 21 days a year to be a casino! The downside to this method is that you have to make the application 3 months in advance, but guess thats not an issue. Fred in the UK thats a scary thought lol

next your be asking to stay with me as well

Blackjack tournaments UK

Mace,

I would support any Blackjack tournament being held in the UK and would do my best to attend.

The rules and format would not really bother me at this stage, as I feel just getting one BJ tournament off the ground would be an achievement. Don’t worry too much if the tournaments are not up to the American standard. Who cares, at least we will be playing tournament BJ and changes can be made as the casinos and players get used to it.

Keep us posted with any developments.

Andy and I are planning another trip over to the states next year. A tournament in England would be a lot less expensive for us and would also give me a chance to pop in and see my aunty liz and uncle philip in their place at Windsor.

BJ Fix

Don’t you worry Fred; I will be back in the USA next year for a Blackjack tournament. Playing in Seattle just gave me an appetite for more live BJ tourneys. Hell, I even look on the calendar on here now.

You are right tournament play is some kind of a “fix”. I have played normal casino BJ several times on my return but just can’t get the same kind of “buzz ”. I suppose the introduction of continuous shuffling machines over here do not really help.

If Mace does manage to organise a tournament over here then I would expect you to attend and support the event. It’s not our fault that the dollar to pound exchange rate is unfavourable to you.

Maybe you could do a seminar ticket event with Joe Pane to offset the cost?

Andy ;)

With 2 months lead time I would try REALLY hard. I HAD planned on playing at the Aviator in Paris in May 07 - alas it wasn't in the cards.

Actually I'm trying to get a freelance photo assignment for LVA or UBT to help with my expenses.

Fred now I know why you bet so much on your 1st hand, you have forgotton the adjustemnt for the number of decks lol,

Now back to UK tournaments i can now reveal it is the Hilton group who are interested in running this as an event within a fun casino scenrio within their home counties hotels. Now as a monthly circuit event that runs around the Home Counties i do not expect massive guranteed payouts but how about the winner also getting an entry into a yearly tournament that will be held in one of London's largest Casino's that has been taken over by a Las Vegas Casino Group
Hmm this is starting to sound interesting
