If I was going to be able to make to LV once before next May, is there a best month to enter the tourney? That is, is one month better than another because of number of entrants, other tourneys going on, ect.

Also, if my wife and I were both entering, do you get a break on the fees because you only need one room?

    Thanks,
    Dan

There's no break on the fee, whether you need the rooms or not.

As for the best month, that's been a tough question to answer reliably. Here's a good example of what I mean: One of the years (I forget which), everyone figured that the December tournament would be the least popular because it was only a week before Christmas. Since everyone had the same idea, it ended up being maxed out at 200 entrants.

Here's a useful idea though: Attendance does tend to increase when the other regular tournaments in Vegas are scheduled in conjunction. Thus, this month's LVH will probably be busy, since the Frontier and Stardust are holding events around the same dates. Skipping the months that feature a busy tournament week may help you choose a month with lower turnout.

I was all set to go this month, then came to this conclusion as well -- hence why I will be going in Sept. or Oct. instead. I'm pretty confidant in my tourney skillz, but there's so much EV in waiting til there are less competitors that it would just seem silly to give that up!

    To much thinking?

I was one of the ones Ken talked about playing in Dec. (2003) when we thought the tournament would be empty due to Christmas. It was one of their highest turn outs of the year.

I have heard several players talking about how busy August should be because of the Stardust and New Frontier. Those tournaments are a week before the Hilton and that is pretty tough to stay in Vegas for two weeks or more.

I am thinking they will have around 125-145 at the most for August and maybe less due to thinking to much...LOL.

Bottom line is you have to play and win three rounds to qualify (unless wild carded) and you have to be one of the top two players at each table of each round (until the finals) so what does it matter? If you come in third against 5 other players do you feel any better then coming in third against only two other players? The odds are better for wild cards (if you lose out), but you still have to win that third round to qualify (wild cards for semi's and finals don't count in the qualifying.)

Good luck to all that try this month.

    Another Question

The dates listed for the qualifiers are all Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Is Thursday a check-in day only? If I were to get a Thursday flight what time would I need to be there by?

Is the play actually only on Friday and Saturday?

Are the comped rooms for Thursday, Friday & Saturday night and do they comp any meals with the entry?

    Thanks Again,
    Dan

    A lot of questions Dan....
first..all are for Thurs. - Sat. night
one round only on Fri...you could play at 10 am. and then not again until Sat.
no food comps....Call the Hilton....but I think you can late register on Fri. morning if you miss the sign up on Thurs. good luck...Les runs a good tournament out there.....if you need more info go to lvhilton.com and click on the "Jack"

I'm glad everyone thinks August will be a busy month at the Hilton. Hopefully, everyone will stay home and improve my chances a little.

    August Hilton

The Las Vegas Hilton August tournament (today) has a low turnout and they will be using the '120' format. That means I will start in round two at noon.

Just in, final head count for August MDIII qualifier....101 players. This was the smallest turnout so far this year.

Walt the Contrarian is right on the money again. Low turnout for August, and I can't attend. Well, I guess I'll wait for a 200 player event, so it will be just that much more impressive when I advance. :)

Good luck to Walt and Faye today. Go get 'em!

    Hilton finalist

I don't have the order of finish just some of the finalist.

    Surrender won.

Harvey Bader (last week he won the Stardust dice last weekend)

    Vince Costa (Wild Card)

    John Ressman

    Fred Hielman

Not to shaby of a final table.

  13. Missing July

I had the honor of shaking JOEP's hand as he walked into the Hilton to record the last five hands of the finals for this site. However, I do not see the results from last month (July). Are they available?

Yes Bradley, sorry for the delay. Joe provided them to me quite a while ago, but I haven't prepared them for posting yet. They're coming, along with last week's New Frontier final.

Thanks Ken. I thought that perhaps JOEP wanted to keep the month where he was the featured player in the publics eyes a bit longer.

He deserves it anyway! He is a good player as well as a good person.
