Just got the invite for this qualifier at Paris casino, June 9-12. First place is $20,000.00, with the top ten receiving a spot at the Millionaire Maker finals at Ceasar's in August. Even though this event is invitational, it's still worth a call to see if you can score a seat in this qualifier. Good luck!!!!

    Also at Bally's & Flamingo

Harrah's is also running the same basic event (cash prizes may be different but still 10 seats to be awarded) at Bally's and the Flamingo (both Las Vegas) on May 14-17. These are also invitationals. My experience with the Harrah's Group is that if an event is "invitational" it's really hard to get in by "sweet talking". But you never know.

    Rio Too!!

The same millionaire maker tournament is also at the Rio. I got a invite to that one and its starts may 12th to may 14th with the same prize money as the others.:1st:

  4. I got the invite for Bally's but am holding out for the qualifier I hope they hold at their New Orleans property. They have only been re-opened a little less than 2 months so I don't think they have gotten completely reorganized yet.
So I am gambling that they hold one sometime later.

    Tahoe Invitational

I also looked into the Millionaire Maker Tournament that is being held in Lake Tahoe the first weekend in May. It is set up as an invitational, but after reading some earlier posts, I decided to call to see if there was a buy-in option. I figured it doesn't hurt to ask, so I did, and they had a limited number of seats available in a "buy-in" scenario. I quickly put my name in (along with $200) so that I could give it a try. The top 6 ( I think) earn entry to the Aug. tournament at Ceasars.

    It never hurts to ask...

    Harrah's St. Louis - SHHHH, it's a secret

Just received a flier from Harrah's St. Louis with a May calendar of events. The calendar has an event, some tournaments - some not, for just about every day during the month of May. Conspicuously missing are the MILLIONAIRE MAKER BLACKJACK TOURNAMENTS (2 are being held during May). I guess they want to keep this a secret.

Well, they should be congratulated because it's evidently working. They are holding a total of 7 Millionaire Maker Qualifiers. The first 2 are over and attendance was very poor. The last one on April 1 had only about 50 entrants out of a possible 147. This in spite of the fact that it's an OPEN event - anyone with a $100 can get in.

To be fair, I think the poor attendance can also be attributed to 3 other things:
    1) This is a very poorly run tournament.
    2) Some of the playing rules are really bad.
    3) They normally do not have BJ tournaments at Harrah's St. Louis. Therefore, they have no "regulars" to patronizing this event.

Oh well, I guess that's OK. Less competition for me (except the St. Louis mafia, of course).:D

    I'll be there

I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing you. First round is accumulation so it's OK if you sit at my table.

You should also plan on playing their PAI GOW tournament on Monday evening. This tournament has incredible equity - 70 players, $25 entry fee, $15,000 prize pool guaranteed, $5,000 first place. Equity wise, it don't get no better than this!!!:D Needless to say, this tournament always fills up fast.

I'm planning to hang around for the Pai Gow tournament, though I'm not 100% committed yet. It's definitely a great equity event.

    Dinner?

    Ken Smith:

I'll be a bachelor that weekend. How about an early dinner on Sunday or Monday? I say "early" because the tournaments run to 9pm or 10pm. We can probably also get 1 or 2 or 3 St. Louis Mafia boys to join us.:D

    Dinner time?

    Ken Smith:

Timing for dinner presents a slight problem if you are not going to stay for the Monday Pai Gow tournament. The BJT starts on Sunday at 4:00 which is the session I like to play (to allow for rebuy if needed). The final table prize money is completed about 9:30.

We can get together for something light, say about 3:00 or wait 'til after the tournament for a full meal. A meeting place will depend on what time we get together. What's you preference time wise? Also, are you familiar with the layout at Harrah's St. Louis?

PS: Edited the time in the last sentence of the first paragraph (originally had "8:30" - the correct time is "9:30")

I'd like to plan on a late dinner, after the finals. I'm sure we can get some of the StL crew to join us. Here's my cell in case you haven't found me yet: 601-310-4112.

    Late dinner is good

    Sounds like a plan.

We'll just meet at the tournament tables and set up a more exact time later. I'll PM you with my cell phone number. Looking forward to having dinner with "THE MAN".:D

OK, how about a guess from some of the regulars on what kind of bankroll would be required to advance from round 1 in this qualifier.

    Here are the rules..
    $1000 bankroll, betting $10 to $500.
    21 hands in the round.
Countdown with 5 hands to go, and the max bet is raised to $1000 for the final 5 hands.
    BJ pays 2:1
6 jokers are added to the shoe. A joker is an Ace for the player, but counts as a one only for the dealer.

In the first of 3 qualifying rounds this Sunday, there were only 22 players. You are playing against the entire field, and the top 7 chip counts advance to the semifinal round.

My question: What is a reasonable expected total for the cutoff when 7 out of 22 advance with these rules?

I'll post the actual numbers after a day or two.

    Cutoff score

If it was 50-50 game I would guess about $1800 for 7th.
But because of the rules (2 to 1 for BJ and 6 Jokers) I can expect about $2000. And to feel comfortable I would add another 10%.
So my final guess would be $2200.
It is true that if all 22 players target that number about 10 of them will succeed.
But we know that never happens so I am staying on my $2200.

    Wild Guess

The increased max bet on the final five hands was likely a huge factor in calculating a cutoff. The idea of the inverse of the square root stated in Wong's book is probably out the window.

Figure most of the players will be fairly conservative until the final five hands, to get the most bang for their buck. About one in four will get 2:1 BJ's, and the ratio of winners was about one in three. Most of the winners will be the ones who got BJ's or DD's in the last five hands. I'd bet minimum until the last five hands, then bet max and go for a cutoff of 3,000.

My initial guess was around arlalik's, and I figured that 7th place would be around $2000. I was planning to target about $2500.

With 5 hands to go, they announced the scores, and they were higher than I thought. I got to $3025 and did not advance.

    The actual numbers:

First qualifying round, with 22 players: $3500+ required to be in the top 7.
Second qualifying round with 19 players: $3745 was 7th place, and that was me!
Third qualifying round with ?? players: $2000 was 7th place.

I think the first and second rounds may have been unusually high scores, but I also think that targetting $4000 would be appropriate.
