Oklahoma Blackjack Tournaments?

I've occasionally seen mentions of tournament blackjack being played in Oklahoma. In fact, I saw a post from one person saying that because of the limitations of "Class II" gaming, tournament blackjack was the only legal blackjack in Oklahoma.

In his description, there was a standard format: $11 entry, 7 players, 10 hands and one winner of $60.

The point of my question: Is this still the case, and where? Any information appreciated.

    Okl.table games

It is still my understanding that "NO" table games are allowed in Okl. casinos.

They lost the rights for table games for about the passed two years. All they offer now is machines, (unless they just changed).

It was also my understanding that there were no table games anywhere in OK (only Class II slots). I will be happy to "research" the question on my next trip to Tulsa. We do have a member from OK City who may be able to better answer the question.

PS My thoughts are with all of our Gulf Coast members who I'm sure are busy battening down the hatches in preparation for Hurricane Ivan. Hopefully everyone will be "safe" and have minimal damage to your homes.

Well Gflan, I guess I'll step up to the plate with what I do know! There has been an Indian Casino about 20 minutes from my house for over 10 years now and I have never set foot in it! However, my son has. They have "blackjack" at this casino, but not all OK Indian casinos. To play "blackjack" here, you must first get some sort of a membership (which to my understanding is not any big deal), but you pay a fee to play each hand. Am told it is a minimum of 50 cents for a $5 bet, and goes up in steps as your bet increases, which makes it a very high vig game. Am also told that these "fees" to play are returned to the players (sometimes in the form of tournament prizes) and this is how they skirt the Class II only law. Others I'm sure, have more specifics on the game here. I get out to Neveda several times a month and have no reason to go the the stores here.

    OK Blackjack - Addendum

Forgot to mention that casino name is The Lucky Star Casino in El Reno, just west of OKC. Also was told that you had to play so many hands/hours/action at the poor game to get to play in their tourneys. As stated earlier though, others may have better/more precise info.

Am currently on the road in the middle of a 3 week trip spending a few days of R&R in SFO after a week in Reno. Head to LAS tomorrow - the 16th through the 26th for the tourneys that week.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the info.

    I found their website here:
    http://www.luckystar-casino.com

No mention of table games or tournaments, so it sounds like those are history.

Meanwhile, we're just waiting for Ivan along the Gulf Coast. I live in South Mississippi about 90 miles inland, but still expect hurricane strength winds overnight and tomorrow morning. And of course, I'll have it easy compared to many of our regulars from the Gulf Coast area.

I spoke to Walt earlier, and he's weathering the storm at his job at the fire station in mid-town Mobile. Mobile is the expected target at the moment.

To all involved, be safe, and check in when you can and let us know how you are.

    OK Blackjack & Hurricanes

Being a survivor of Hurricane Fredrick that hit Mobile in '79 (before the days of casinos on the MS Gulf Coast), nobody has to tell this old boy to get out of town when one is approaching! Good luck to all effected.

Lucky Star still has "blackjack" according to local TV ads. Don't believe they ever advertised their tourneys. Have never had a need to go to their website.

    Hurricane Ivan

Hope Walt made it through the hurricane. Looks like the I-10 bridge over Escambia Bay got wiped out. Is their an alternate route to Biloxi off of I-10?

I spoke to Walt earlier today, and he's fine though without power. He describes the damage in Mobile as much less than that of Frederic, the last major hurricane to hit Mobile. The wait for power to be restored may be a long one, with some of the rumors saying as late as Sept 28th.

Another of our friends in the direct path was Gerald Martello, who lives about 30 miles inland in the Florida panhandle. His house lost some shingles and sprung a few leaks, but the only tree they lost in the yard did not hit the house fortunately.

On your other question, I don't know what alternatives exist to the Escambia bridge that was damaged. Perhaps someone from the area can respond.

The MS Gaming Commission has not yet given permission for casinos to reopen, and I expect we'll hear news on that later tonight or in the morning.

Mississippi and Louisiana really came out of this very lucky, with Alabama and Florida sustaining the brunt of the storm.

    Oklahoma BJ

Blackjack is back in OK. I live in Lawton and we have BJ here (Comache Nation) since Mar 8. At Red River Casino down I44 near Texas state line it has been going for about a month. Tournaments haven't been scheluded yet, but suppose to run every 3 months. The prize pool for the Red River one is estimated to reach $300000. Already over $100000. BJ has become even more popular. The last tournaments they had at Comache and Red River the pools were over $90000 and $150000 respectively. You pay to play. $5-50 is .50 over $50-200 is $1. You get 1 credit for every hour of play and minutes do count. For tournaments you play your credits. A beginning purchase of $50 gets you 50 extra credits. Everybody at your table could have different amounts to start with and carry that amount over to the next round if you're the highest after 30 hands. 1-25 min. to max bet. I know of 3 people who have made it to first place with 1 credit to start. One of them beat me on the last hand to get first place. Oboxious drunk young punk. Oh well. That got him $61000 and me $39000. I always wondered why I haven't seen all you pros here for such big money. Later John.

The first tournament at the Red River Casino is suppose to be scheduled for Apr. 24. The players pool should top $200000. March 31 is the last day to earn credits for this tournament. Details are to be advertised.

    Oklahoma BJ

Red River Casino is 30 minutes-miles south of Lawton, OK off of I44. About 2 miles off the Randlett exit. Can be seen from I44. 15 miles north from Wichita Falls, TX and 6 miles north from Burkburnett, TX. Lawton has BJ at Comanche Nation Casino. Hasn't scheduled its tournament yet. But well be soon. Comanche N.C. is off of I44 at the Gore Blvd exit. Easily seen on east side of I44.

    Huge payouts cheap entries

Oklahoma does have blackjack at nearly every indian casino now, and it is just like vegas except for the ante ($.50 before every hand). Thunderbird Wild Wild West Casino recently had a $250,000 blackjack tournament in April (1st paid $100,000, 2nd $50,000, 3rd $25,000, 4th $12,000, all the way down to 14th which got $500). The entry was $50 and the number of participants was limitless. They are now going to have them every month, but it is going to be $100,000 and first will pay $35,000, 2nd $17,000, and so on, with the entry being $20. They had one in May and one is already scheduled for June. I think it is crazy reading about all of these other tournaments that the entry is so high and the payouts low. Oklahoma definitely has the best tournaments. All casinos are now begining to have them. There is a casino in Newcastle, Oklahoma and the player pool is over $800,000. Just wait for that one.

    Sounds good, but?

Gamer what is the format for the tournaments? I know you can get in with an entry fee now that was one of the main reasons they got shut down before (They ues to only allowed players with 40 or more hours of play in the tournaments).

I heard before they were little 5 - 10 hand tournaments per round and that they take three days to finish, is that the case now?

If they are running regular tournaments I'll be driving up there all the time (from Dallas).

    Tourney Format

The format for the tournaments is as follows: The tournaments run for three days from a Tuesday to a Thursday from 6-10 P.M. You are assigned a 45 minute session time each day (the same time each day) and play 15 hands. You receive $200 in chips and the max bet is $100 and the min. is $5. You play on both Tuesday and Wednesday regardless of how you did, and the top 49 combined 2 day scores advance to the finals on Thursday at 6 P.M. The finals consist of 7 players at seven tables (18 hand format). The winner from each table advances to the championship table to compete for 1-7 place, and the second place chip leader advances to the other table to compete for 8-15 place. I hope this is helps. Must have a players card

One more thing, you have to be in their database as a registered player with a players card. You just fill out a sheet of paper. For the June tournament you have to have been registered by May, but you can register now and be eligible for July on.

    Newkirk

This is off-topic for this thread but I thought I'd mentioned it here. Oh well:

Newkirk, Ok is having tournaments almost every week. However, their's are sponsored by a radio station. Entries for a drawing for seats are made at specified merchants who advertise with the radio station. The radio station from the drawings, selects 6 players for the "tournament" and the casino selects the seventh seat. The prize is an expense paid trip for two to Las Vegas but no one seemed to know what the destination hotel was.

When pushed to answer questions about the "real" tournament, all I got was that they did not have a large enough player pool yet for the real tournament.

BTW, in Oklahoma, the ante stays with the Casino. 10% of the table's win goes to the State of Oklahoma. The rest is supposed to go into a Player Pool and returned to the players in some form or fashion....supposedly a tournament. There are probably details about that 90% of which I am ignorant, but in essense, thats the way it breaks down.

    July Tourney

I was @ Red River Casino last weekend and I was told that the next BJ tournament would be in July. I did not get any details other than you needed to have players card to participate.

I guess the casinos here in Ok. have all different types of formats. The Lawton Comanche Nation casino tournament is scheduled for July 10 and the Randlett Red River casino is July 24. As of today the players pools are $184000 and $135000. The Lawton pool took a $12000 hit a couple of days ago and this will be their first tournament this year. This is the Red Rivers second one. Their first tournament pool was $188000 and it took a $30000 hit, because of the new double exposure days. The tournament starts Sunday afternoon (2 rounds) and ends the next evening (2 rounds). Wild card seats (if availiable) go to the person(s) with the highest chip count that didn't advance. I posted other info earlier. You need only have 1 credit/hour to be eligible to play. Seen 3 people win who started with 1 and bought the extra 50 ($50). One that beat me for first on the last hand. Here's the phone numbers ask for the BJ pit. Comanche Nation 1-580-354-2000 and Red River 1-866-280-3261. Goodluck if you come to play.
