Being new to playing blackjack tournaments, it seems like there is no standard format to them. You never know for sure what the structure will be as you may even be told one thing at sign up and then they will change the format as you are sitting down to play. In poker the directors follow "Poker Tournament Directors Association" rules (see http://pokertda.com) so you know that the tournaments at all casinos will be under the same format and structure. Do blackjack tournament directors have an association? If so where is their web site location? It seems to me that having basic standards, rules and procedures would simplify their tournaments as it has done in poker.
Blackjack Tournament Directors Blackjack Tournament Directors have a very close knit assocation. They hold their meetings at the offices of the Griffin Det. Agency where the look over family pictures of all the BJ Tournament players. This is where they decide who plays and who is shown the door.Sometimes the even call these players CHEATERS.Who said the Taliban has been destroyed
A less official Org Actually, I believe all Blackjack Tournament directors belong to TRBJTDA, or Thunderdome Rules Blackjack Tournament Directors Association. Here is a brief excerpt from their official charter: Rule #1: All tournament payouts, formats and rules shall be posted for all to view, copy, and distribute in such a manner as to entice the entrance of the most entrants possible. Rule #2: Persuant to rule #1, once they are paid and in the casino, anything goes. Rule #3: To ensure maximum profitability, get them drunk on the first night and take as much of their money as possible. That is, it will be necessary to hold "registration" one day prior to tournament gaming, early in the evening, and ALWAYS in conjunction with a reception or banquet where an extra bartender or two will be stationed. And their motto? "We put the 'ass' in association!" Oh, I'm not bitter. Quite the contrary....
So basically, the BJ tournament directors are on their own to do as they wish. Evidently, there is not a tournament directors association that makes the rules for all to follow as in Poker. The BJ tournament directors rules are fixed unless they wish to change them at any time or any reason (a high roller will always win any dispute over anyone else). I know I don't like to be told one thing at sign up and get there and they change the rules or format. Well at least I have been offered my entry fee returned if I don't want to play under the new format or rule change, but I would have to lose the money I spent to get there. Great public relations. Another reason more people are switching to poker.
