Last night between rounds at a tournament I had something happen that made me wish I could come up with a witty remark. There were 3 of us at a $5 table. I was essentially 3rd base. The middle guy was playing 2 hands. I got 3 BJ's in a row. Next bet I pushed out $25 with a $10 tip and asked the dealer if she could make it 4. She just smiled. While I was doing that number 2 picked up and moved his 2 hands to the other side of me, moving me from the 4th hand to the 2nd hand. The dealer dealt and as she dealt the second card on hand 4, she looked at me and said "I guess I could've". Yes, the bozo that jumped around me got a BJ on what should've been my hand. I was so ticked I don't even remember what I had. I just remember I lost. I glanced at the bozo and he didn't even acknowledge the fact. I didn't say anything but really wish I would've. I also wish I would've been quicker and asked him to stay where he was for that hand instead of moving. What would others have done?
Luck You already know that what happened was pure unadulerated luck and it could have as easily gone the other way....you could have picked up a BJ that "he" would have gotten. But, since I like playing third base anyway, I would have probably have moved to third as soon as the seat came available. That has always been my practice. Two weekends ago, I was playing at the Plaza and had been playing two spots, third base and the spot next to it. I was down and had to stop playing two spots for a while and when I pulled the bet off of that second spot, a player sat down and played it. After a while, my stack had built back up and first base was open. I polietly ask the gentleman if he didn't mind first base, I would buy him a drink if he would move so I could play that second spot. He didn't even acknowledge me....I had to wait for him to bust out (which he did about an hour later). That's his perogative and I didn't let myself get upset. It would have been nice had he moved, but he was certainly under no obligation to do so.
What would you have done if....... .....if the 2nd spot which was now occupied by you got the Snapper? If the cards would have known that you were due to get 4 BJ's in a row they would have realized that you were in a different relative spot and adjusted. .....if no one got a Snapper this time? It's always easier to know a good run of cards after they have happened. If only we knew ahead of time the game would be too easy, but then again it would be much more profitable! Personally I would just brush it off and laugh about it! But then, that's just me. Dan
Yes, I know it was pure luck, and about 30 seconds after it happened I realized there was no reason to get ticked about it. I still wish I could've thought of something witty to say. I normally like third base also, but I also don't like to upset the apple cart when I'm on a good run. I also wouldn't move like that and change the order at the table in the middle of a shoe.
Dan... Of course you also realize that I never pay attention to that "every 21 hands" stuff; I just leap on the table whenever I feel like it, especially on those 6:5 tables ('cause they really bruised my ego!). If the table pays 3:2 then you'll see me jump right out when a player has just lowered the bet. My favorite time to emerge is right in front of the dealer on the final hand of a tournament round (I can hear the groaning now...). :joker:
What would I have done? I would have told Rick Jensen to pick one spot, stick to it, and stop moving around!! Chips
Voodoo Blackljack When you think that the cards have some sort of order that can be changed by Third base ( or any other player's hit), you're practicing "Voodoo Blackjack" . The chances of getting a favorable card are just as good a getting an unfavorable card. Last week, I was at a table with 2 ladies. I was at 3rd base and getting the good hands. The lady at 1st base complained about getting lousy cards while I was getting the good hands. I offered to let her have 3rd base. Her friend in center field quickly said, "No, then I'm going to get all the bust hands". That's Voodoo Blackjack. The most clever thing you could have said was, "Nice hit".
