the one May 18 will play the same time as the Palace $35,000 tournament May 18-19.... very interesting ...will try to play both …?????

I played one of these Hard Rock tourneys a few years ago, and at the time, we were only dealt 12 hands per round. Is that still the format?

 

Yes. 12 hands. No max bet. But the cash is good (This month it's $25K, $10k, $2K for the rest 0f the final table), if you get lucky and make it to final table.

 

Congratulations Clay. To steal an applicable phrase that another player uses a lot: "Good guys win!" $25K is a very nice days work!

Agreed it was hectic and I hope there isn't the same conflict again, but even though I didn't make the cut at the Palace until my 2:00 PM re-buy round, and I opted to go forgo a re-buy at HR and to stay with the Palace play for the remainder of the day after losing the first round at Hard Rock, I feel a bit better about trying them both than I did going into them this past weekend. Obviously a long shot but things worked out such that there was a chance for the winner of the Hard Rock to have been the winner of the Palace too. The Palace fell only 24 seats short of it's typical sell out - better than I would have expected with all the cash up for grabs at the Hard Rock. It was great seeing all our friends and participating in such good competition, at both events.

 

Can anyone tell me the format for the tournament on the 24th?

 

Usually 4 round elimination, $10k starting bank, 12 hands, $500 min bet / No max bet, chip countdown after 10th hand, secret bet prior to playing last hand of final table.

Thanks. What does "chip countdown" and the "secret bet" mean? Sorry for my ignorance. Any idea how many people normally play? I'm thinking of riding down for this one.

 

After the 10th hand is complete each player’s chips are counted and announced by casino personnel.

Prior to cards being dealt on the last (12th), hand, each player writes down their bet. All bet amounts are exposed at the same time and the dealer pulls from each player’s chips the secret bet amount and places it in the bet circle. Then the cards are dealt. Player’s then may act on their hand as normal, including doubles and splits, using tournament rules.

Due to the very short game and no max bet as well as the mix of players that typically only play slots and blackjack player’s I’d be hard pressed to characterize a typical, or “normal” play style. I think it safe though to say that as much as luck is a factor in more typical elimination tournament play, this “no max bet” event requires at least some degree of additional luck to be successful.

Wow. Sounds like survival to the 10th hand and then 99% luck on the last 2 with everyone going all in. I wonder what percentage make it to that 10th hand? I'm going to try and make it. Sounds like fun. If you make it I'm the old fat obnoxious guy with the buzz cut. That should narrow it down to half of the casino. Thanks for your help.

I won't be able to get down until Saturday morning so I guess I'll have to pay the $150 late registration. The only Casino in Biloxi that I've played at is Beau Rivage. Do you know if the Hard Rock has a good double deck pitch game? Either way hope to see some of you guys from the board there. I'm hoping even more that we can all end up on that final table!

 

HARD rock sucks! 25 cent ante to play on a 3/2 BJ table slows down the game and is a general PITA. The dealer couldn't count. Paid me 3 times when she beat me by 1. I told her the first time and gave her the money back... I kept the other two. I'll go back for the tournaments but not to play BJ. Managed to finish second in the first round but got beat by the epitome of "It's better to be lucky than smart". This guy went all in on the first hand, hit it and then followed with 3 Blackjacks. He was up $40,000 by the 8th hand, couldn't be caught by the rest of us and still kept betting big... AND hitting! I bought back in and finished second again. I got consecutive Blackjacks on the last two hands and would have won the round but the dealer hit 21 on the first one and I pushed. Boohoo, Oh well, the guy who won was wheelchair bound and played well. If I had to lose I'm glad it was to him, congrats! The level of play was atrocious in that first round, most players out before the 10th hand was dealt. Good experience though. I'll know better what to expect next time... and there will be a next time... bruhahaha!

I am thinking about trying to make it to the oct 19 tournament what time does the round start and is there early registration on fri? be my 1st so all info would be greatly appreciated thanks

 

C'mon down. Ill be there. Early registration on Friday, $100, Im not sure of the time but probably all day. Late registration on Saturday till 11, $150. Buy back is $100 if you get knocked out of the first round. Tournament starts at 12 on Saturday but you may play later depending on your table. I wouldn't waist my time playing on their tables while waiting on your session. I'm staying at the Beau and will be playing there for fun. The tables at the hard rock are 25 cent ante for a 3/2 BJ. It's a pain. The tournament play is crazy first round. Lots of players going all in with no clue to strategy. If you end up playing against a lucky one they can blow you out and can't be caught unless you can match their luck. Most are out by the 10th hand. I made it to the end twice finishing second, only 2 of us left both times. First time I lost to dumb luck... guy had $40000 without a clue as to strategy but was hitting every hand. Second time it was close. Two 21s last two hands. Unfortunately the dealer had 21 on the first one and I pushed. Still it was close and I only got beat by a few thousand. It pays to be very aggressive but pure luck can definitely rule the day in the first round. I imagine strategy plays more of a part in the later rounds. Either way it's fun.
