To our members who live in the Seattle area I have a few questions and was wondering if maybe you could help:

In order for me to play in the BJT events I have to appease my better half with things for "her" to do. Suggestions included spending some time at Pike Place Market and dinner at the Space Needle.

I've looked at mapquest and seen these locations are only 20-25 miles from the casino hosting the event so...

How difficult is it to get dinner reservations at the Space Needle? Would you recommend it?

Also any nice tourist traps that I can take her after the tournaments are done?

    Thanks

    FGK--

One of the nice things about coming to Seattle is the many non-gambling things that there are to do. Although we keep a very busy schedule working as well as playing 9-10 tournaments a week, we still have taken the time to do the Space Needle, Pike Place market, or just walk around downtown. All are worthwhile. I don't know about the time needed for reservations in the space needle but it is a nice restaurant. Also museums, the Aquarium etc downtown.

We also could recommend a drive to Mt Rainier Natl Park at Paradise, riding any of the ferries for spectacular views of the Sound and the city, watching the salmon going up the fish ladders, or, a particular favorite, Deception Pass. I understand that the trips to the San Juan Islands to see the orcas or the ferry to Victoria BC are also worthwhile but we haven't taken the time.

For any who don't know, whatever the time period required for comps, Washington state non-tribal casinos have a max bet of $200 and even double deck must be dealt out of a shoe. These are card rooms, not casinos, ie no slot machines, no smoking, table games only. We can recommend some excellent games at other casinos for the AP's coming but will not do so in a public forum.

Any questions, let us know & we'll try to help. Have only been here full time since mid May but there are others in this forum also.

might add, to see, is the boeing museum of flight. buy a ticket, we tried to sneak in. a must to see is discovery bay light house. being from nor cal, surrounded by redwoods, mountains and the ocean, the puget sound area is just as scenic. there are sea pane flights to the san juan isles, via kenmore air and others. and, of course the ferries, that go to the various isles.

i would hope that the visting tourney players take the time to see this area. where, the tourney is held (auburn), DOES NOT, reflect the beauty of this area. it would be sad if others just see the auburn area, and not what the entire seattle area has to offer. take some time and see what just could be some of the most beauitful sights that this country has to offer.

i will answer for leha, since she is at a pai-gow tourney. no, iron horse does not have slots. again, wa. state has, i believe 108 casinos, with a majority of them without slots. yes there are tribal casinos, with the nearest to auburn (iron horse), being muckleshoot and the emerald queen casinos. they, of course have slots and smoking. as stated before, there is no smoking in the state licenced casinos, which is of great joy to us. we stay out of the tribal casinos, for mainly this reason. though, red wind casino, does have a decent crap table environment. it is located in the nisqually reservation, which is beauitful.

on the lighter side, i.e. shopping. this is seattle. the downtown is fantastic. i used to work in san francisco. the two are very alike. plenty to do, and as i stated, to see. just do not come to auburn and think, is this it?

    hope these updates help.

    Things to do

Space Needle has a great view and food is okay. I would recommend Salty’s on Alki Beach. Great food and a view of downtown Seattle.

If shopping malls is your thing, might want to visit Southcenter Mall, Tukwilla or Bellevue Square Mall. Both are about half an hour drive from downtown Seattle.

Into Wine - Might also tour Ste. Michelle Winery or Columbia Winery in Woodinville. Redhook Brewery is next to both of them. These tours are free and take about 40 minutes.

Ballard Locks in Seattle is another tourist attraction. You should see Silver salmon (coho), Pink salmon (humpies), maybe some King salmon and Sockeye salmon (reds). September is the end of the run for Kings. These salmon go through the locks entering Lake Washington to spawn. If you go to the locks, you will pass-by Fisherman’s Terminal. This where Sig Hansen moors his boat, Northwesterner, from the TV program “Most Dangerous Jobs”.

There is the Washington Dinner train that starts from Tacoma to Lake Kapowsin about 3.5 hours. They also have the Murder Mystery train. Check it out.

I hope this helps a little on planning your visit. See you in Auburn.

Best hidden five star secret in Seattle... the Hunt Club restaurant and the Sorrento Hotel.

Also, if the Mariners are still playing (falling apart) there's nothing better than a night at Safeco Field.

If you are in Bellevue and love Italian Food, there's also Maggiano's Little Italy. Amazing. Great dining options abound around Bellevue Square.

There's also Snoqualmie falls... and a local fishery there... don't remember the name, but a good time of year for that. I understand the restaurant at Snoqualmie Falls is marvelous.
