    Grand Tournament

Ken, Didn't we have trouble verifying their payout last year??????? That was the first year they lowered their prize package, because they only had 160 (but only 159 paying)???????
The prize fund you listed is based on what number???? 140 players only brings in $70,000. What do they do then????????
I would love to meet you and Jan there, BUT I don't want to see another questionable payout package once we get there.
I would love some thoughts by you and the other MISS regulars (I won't mention names).

    No, No, No, No, No.

Oooh, this is really a hot-button issue with me. I made a total fool out of myself at last year's event, because everyone kept coming up to me and telling me that they weren't paying out all the money. I used several pieces of faulty information provided to me by well-meaning friends, and decided they were right.

I approached the tournament staff, and made an allegation that later proved to be completely false, and I really felt like an idiot afterward. I had to go back and apologize to those involved.

The Grand paid out 100% last year, and I'll be extremely careful in future situations where I doubt that. Repeat, last year there was no issue at all. All the people who stirred up the trouble were mistaken, and I foolishly allowed myself to be swept up in the middle of it.

    Maybe more then 100%

I wrote on an earlier post with only 140 players the Grand will add money to the prize pool. Brad from the Grand told me the prize pool would increase with more players entered.

He didn't say how much of the extra entries would go back as prize money, only it would increase. On Ken's last post he said they put all the money back in the prize pool last year.

Any new updates on next weekend's Tunica Tourney?

Has anyone talked with the Grand in the last few days to see how registrations are going for next weekends' tourney? Someone posted earlier that there were only 25 registered as of a couple of weeks ago. Any chance they might cancel it if not enough people sign up?

    Grand tournament

Just from players I've talked to they will have over 75, but they should and expect between 160 - 225 maybe more.

You can't get and exact total from them only that they should have enough players.

I am signed up, but not paid yet so I am sure other players have done the same. If I get to go I'll pay when I get there. Sounds like a good tournament and they guaranteed first place at $50,000 no matter how many show up.

Early prediction: gflan is in the money next week, good luck Gayle.

Thanks TX but this field will be tough!

Haven't played in a tournament since May and am feeling quite rusty...doesn't take much when you are so inexperienced! I wish I could play more often.
I talked to a dealer at the Grand Monday night and he said he had seen a list with 65 or 70 names on it at the end of last week. That info could be very inaccurate though. I'm hoping that you all decide to come play! Gayle

    Don't kid yourself

You played like a champ in the Fitz Super-Mini and advanced. I'll bet any amout their won't be a table in Tunica with as many tough players as were at that table.

I still say you'll be in the money, don't let me down.

    Sign-ups increasing

When I registered Friday, I kept asking how many people had signed up and I was told it was about 90. I'll see you all there!

Grand Results, and prize structure request

Jan and I both made the semifinals, but neither made the finals. I seem to be stuck in semis these days, and can't seem to break through to the money table!

Our crew from here at BlackjackTournaments.com was very well-represented among the participants, and I hope to see a post from one of our members who made the finals.

I left before the finals began, and also missed out on receiving a hand-out that described the prize payout structure.

Can someone who has that information please post it? I understand there ended up being questions about 100% payback, and I'd like to know the truth here. I believe there were around 234 original entries at $500 and around 108 rebuys at $200 each. These numbers are not firm however. If they are accurate, that would represent $138,600 cash taken in.

    Final Table

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post here even though I have been a lurker for a while. Thanks to the helpful posts on this site (and a lot of luck) I was able to advance to final table. To partially answer Ken’s question about the prize structure, it went something like this.

    1st- $65000
    2nd- $19000
    3rd- $10000
4th- $6500 (this one may be off some)
    5th $4500
    6th $3500
    7th- $2500
    8th-36th - ?

These figures are just estimates. Rob (the tourney director) announced the structure while we were seated at the final table. But, I never saw a print out of the pay outs. As for the final table, play was fairly conservative. In fact, the only bet over $100 that I made before hand 23 was a bet of $800 on hand 14. I was last to act. Assuming BR1 and I both won, this would have put me in the lead. I ended up losing this hand, and returned to minimum bets. Two players busted out before hand 25. Going into hand 25 the bankrolls and bets looked like this (I’ll use Lowell’s name since his name has already been mentioned):

    Seat Bankroll Bet
    1(wildcard) 2200 100
    2 4900 2300
    3 3600 (?)
    4(me)* 3700 2500
    5(Lowell) 4700 2500

(?) = I don’t remember seat 3’s bet, but he took the low.
    * = I had the pleasure of acting first. I really don’t remember everyone’s cards, but the dealer had a six up. I had a 14, doubled with the rest of my chips, and caught an 8. I believe Lowell, 2, and 3 all had pat hands. Lowell probably remembers because all he had to do was sit back and wait for the dealer to bust his six. He obliged by flipping a 10 in the hole. Unfortunately for Lowell (and to the delight of 3), the dealer drew the miracle 5, busting the table.

On a personal note, I want to say that it was a pleasure meeting many of the posters here. Everyone was very amiable and more deserving of my seat at the final table than I. Even though the alteration of the tournament structure was a little annoying, it was a great weekend overall. I look forward to seeing y’all at future tournaments (on my right, of course).

    Take care,
    walker

Congrats for the fine showing, walker. You definitely had a nice shot at winning the whole thing. I'm sorry the double down wasn't kind. I was pulling for you!

On the prize money, adding your numbers, plus 30 x $500 for the semifinalists who did not advance gives a payout of $126,000. That's substantially short of the estimated cash taken in, but I'm not certain of the player counts so I'll leave it alone. Certainly, I think we should all ask if they'll guarantee 100% of entries and re-entries paid out in future events. I'm a little frustrated at the possibility that they may have kept some cash this time, particularly after I reassured everyone about last year and made them a recommended event here.

Still, I really enjoyed playing this event, and I have to think the casino was happy with the turnout and the action they got. Hopefully they'll have this size of event on a regular basis there.

    Way to go Walker!

Congratulations on making the final table.

Sounds like your one of us now, a tournament junkie hooked on tournament play...LOL!

Sorry I couldn't make it to Tunica, hope to see you in Vegas in August. I am signed up for seven tournaments between August 13-21. Three BJ, two Dice, and 2 Slots and the nicest part is only two of them have entry fees.

I am like Ken, stuck in a semifinal runt, maybe I can break my streak and get into the money next month.

Congratulations to both Ken and Jan for making the semifinals, at least you got your money back and thats better then most.

    Semifinal Runt

    TX
Hey you and Ken stop complaining, I can't get out of a quarterfinal rut!
Seriously though, the tournament was a success and a lot of fun. This was like a MDBJII reunion. This site and all of Ken's work had a lot to do with the huge turn out.
They could have used your organizational skills. When the tournament became over booked they went from three first round advancers to two. This dumped at least 30 extra entrants into the re-buy round. They only drew 4 wild cards for the 3rd round yet only had six at most tables and advanced two from each. An extra wild card at each table would have lessened the sting of the loss of one advancer (as advertised) in the first. Also the semifinalists received no increase in prize money. it stayed at $500. Doing the math with 209 entries and the extra buy-ins there still seemed to be an extra $25K not returned to the players. I did eat a lot of shrimp at the reception so maybe it went to overhead.
Congrats to Walker and Lowell. It seemed like BR4 was looking to lock up 3rd and backed up into the win with the dealer drawing the 5 for a 21.
Nice job by Hollywood on Celeb BJ. If they had cut him any more he would have wound up with less air time than his beer commercial: “ I once dated a girl for her brain”. Hey Dave, what was her IQ...36DD ?

What's funny is that an ex-ex-girlfriend (who is blessed with a beautiful 34D figure) contacted me to tell me she saw the commercial & to remind me that yes, i once dated someone for her 'brains'....

    New Frontier?

I didn't know about the NF craps tournament, when is it? I know about their BJ on 19-20 of August.

The ones I am planning on playing in are August 13-15 VIP at Harrah's and 20-22 VIP ($299 entry) at Stardust (S.Yama posted about the Stardust one) that is how I found out about it. I just talked to the Stardust and they are needing more players for the Dice tournament, not much responce yet so maybe anyone with $299 entry may get in, good luck.

Post any new tournaments you find out about.

    Right on Walker!!

Nice going Walker. If I remember correctly, I believe you mentioned to me that this was your first tournament. If so, you are one-up on Angie for the title of "Moneytaker" as a newbie player cashing in, since you made the final table.

IG, was that before or after the mountain of roast beef I saw on your plate? :)
