The night before the Blackjack Cruise, we are planning a get together at the Oceana resturant in the French Quarter.

This is the link for the restaurant Tammy made reservations for Friday, January 25, 2008 at 8:00 PM for 50 people in the LaBoheme Room.

It's just a little hole in the wall we found last trip. It was the best food and the best we were treated while we we in New Orleans. Hope everyone going on the cruise can join us for fun and laughs the night before the cruise.

Roll Call for Dinner Friday Night

I need to get a head count for the restaurant. The room I booked is for 50 people, however they can add another table or 2 if we need them to. This room has a balcony that looks out over the French Quarter. As long as we are eating and drinking we can stay until they close. That is as long as we take care of our wait staff. They are not charging for the private room.

Just remember we have to get up early the next morning. I would hate for anyone to miss the ship. -lol  :yikes:

I booked the room for 8:00 PM, so we could watch at least one of the parades. The parades are scheduled for 6:00PM and 6:45 PM. The restaurant is about 4 blocks away from the parade route and The Astor Crowne Plaza were most of us will be staying.

Anyone that is planning on going please let me know here or email me. I know of a few people have already said they were going. But please reconfirm for me.

    I will start the list

    Themom82 - plus 3 - my sister, and 2 friends

I look forward to seeing everyone soon!!!!!

:celebrate  :band: :band2:  :band: :celebrate

themom82, what is early the next morning? Departure is 4PM according to the schedule at carnival.com

    Cruise Departure Time

    Rookie,

The ship is scheduled to depart at 4:00 PM, but you need to be on board by 3 - 3:30PM. They start boarding between 12 - 1PM, but because of the parades that day some of the streets will be closed so you sould count on delays getting to the ship after 11:00 AM. I have been told you can check you bags then go shooping or watch the parade as long as you are on the ship by 3:30 PM.

I am working with a shuttle company that will offer us group rates and group pick up at the local hotels. I hope to have more info early next week. I am waiting for final email confirmation before I issue quotes.

I will email each person to advise what is available for your schedules.

If you have any questions let me know.

  8. I just realized that I will be in New Orleans that weekend. I am accompanying my girlfriend who is playing in a Millionaire Maker slot tournament qualifier that Ffiday night and during the day Saturday. Are any of you coming to the casino after dinner? Or partaking of some of the drinking opportunities available in the French Quarter later that evening?

Mardi Gras is on Feb 5

I'm not sure what Tex was referring to - but Mardi Gras is on Fat Tuesday, which comes on Feb 5 this year, very early. Parades start about 2 weeks before Mardi Gras, and the weekend after the Cruise 4 will have some nice parades. You can Google Mardi Gras 2008 to find out schedule.

Actually the week prior to the official Mardi Gras opening is the best time to visit New Orleans unless you desire to be on TV exposing your breasts.

Daily parades with beads thrown and the street performers are there warming up their act without suffocating crowds.

  15. Let me throw in something about Mardi Gras. Because I used to organize trips for my bar customers to the Mardi Gras celebration, some people still ask me "when is Mardi Gras?'. Many people think that Mardi Gras is only referring to either the Tuesday before Ash Wednsday or the weekend before Fat Tuesday. (which is the English Translation of Mardi Gras) That is one way to look at it and for my friends, that is what they are asking because that is when we always took our Mardi Gras road trip for people from my bar. That Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday is often referred to as the "96 hour weekend. Another group of people look at Mardi Gras as the time period from when the first parade rolls until the last parade on Fat Tuesday. (usually 14-15 days before Fat Tuesday) The techincal description of Mardi Gras is the 40 days preceding Lent (excluding Sundays). Some people consider the "Carnival season" to begin when the "12th night revelers" hold their ball 12 days after the New Year. My point is that it is sometimes hard to say when Mardi Gras starts because different people have different interpretations of when Mardi Gras starts. Thankfully, almost everyone agrees that the Carnival season and Mardi Gras ends at Midnight on Fat Tuesday. (Unless you are one of the lucky ones who have connections to places like The Dungeon or Snug Harbor where the celebrations continue on into the night despite the NOPD clearing the streets at midnight.

    Have a great time.
