Hi all, this is my first post here. Are there any tournaments that are held in the East Midlands of the UK and if not where is closest? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I think Las Vegas might be the nearest! :)

Joking aside, I'm not aware of any regular events currently taking place anywhere in this country. Tournaments do occasionally spring up. If you look through some of the old threads, you will see locations that have previously held (or at least advertised) them.

I occasionally do a Google search and/or check casino websites to see if anything is mentioned. But it might be worth your while visiting or phoning your local casinos, as it seems common for events not to get promoted beyond putting up a poster in the lobby.

    Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. Will keep playing Casino Verite Blackjack for the time being to improve my game. I'm looking to make my first visit to a land based casino in the next couple of months. Will e-mail and phone around the ones in Nottingham (I'm from Lincoln) to see if they run any tournamnents. Haven't found anything on google, but as you say, they may only advertise in the lobby.

On another topic, do UK casinos tend to use continuous shuffling machines in money games? Wondering if I'm learning to count a little late, when the fun has ended :(.

    You're welcome.

Are you using Casino Verite just for regular blackjack practice, or do you have the tournament mode available too? I think we discussed this here before and it was said that the tournament mode was withdrawn from the current version, but the old version was still bundled, or something like that. (As you can probably tell, I don't have Casino Verite myself.:))

You can get more information about the games in different UK casinos at Ken's other site, www.blackjackinfo.com. There a a few UK posters there.

I do recall it being said there that many casinos have CSMs only. My own experience in London has been that most still use shoes, either exclusively or in combination with CSMs.

Just using CV for regular practice now. I've not yet explored all the features, but I don't think there is a tournament mode. It's great to know that not all Casinos uses CSMs yet as I may get to play Blackjack with +EV a few times :)
