    Congrat's Moses

Way to go on your 5th place finish, glad you made the finals sorry you didn't have better luck once you go there. Well at least you won money and that is the bottom line, that and having fun.

    Way to go Moses!

Congrats on finishing 5th! I probably could tell you who it was that went all in on the last hand and won. It was probably the same guy I saw who played every round going all in on his last hand. I think he busted twice, but must have made the rebuy. I know he got to the final table by going all in at the semifinals too! How did the lady do? I would guess she probably played very conservatively and at least got to the final hand with some chips. She about broke down when she won our table at the semi final round. Evidently she plays there a lot because all the dealers seemed to know her.

    The Lady Finished Third

The only lady in the finals finished third. The player who led all the way to the last hand finished second.

    Problem w/ the #'s @ Gold Strike

After playing the Gold Strike B-Jack tournament this past weekend I have come up w/ a few discrepancies. If I am wrong w/ any of these 'problems' please let me know. First of all, I played this tournament on the promise that all funds received from players would be returned to players. I played the first G.S. tournament and they kept all the re-buy round funds. I was assured after asking this question numerous times that all funds would be returned to the players; this is why I played this tourn.. Now for the #'s.

268 players @ $450.00 - For sake of argument I am using this early bird entry fee because I was told most of the 268 players paid this amount. Total: $120.600 .

    140 rebuys @ $250.00 each for $35,000

This gives us a toal of $155,600 .

Keep in mind that plenty of people bought in for the full $500.00 entry fee.

    * If 100 people out of the 268 paid full price our overlay exceeds $10K. *

The above info ( # of rebuys and the statement that most entries were early bird rates of $450. ) was provided by the gentleman who hosted Sunday's wildcard drawing. I approached him w/ my concerns after the drawing. He also told me that ten people won an entry into this tournament and that there were players representing the 'Press' that were complimentary status. I asked several players that attended the prior tournament if there were drawings for entries and they said no. I was also told that overlay funds would be given out as cash prizes via drawing. They did this during the last tournament I'm informed.

If the casino comps the player do we have to pay for it ? What happened to the overlay funds ?

On top of this my hostess 'Fion' tells me that for every referal I give her that pays for an entry fee and identifies me as the reference; she will discount my entry by $50..( I even double-checked and asked her to confirm this offer by repeating it back to me.) I had three referrals w/ one cancellation. When I registered this was all conveniently denied. I know this seems nominal but keep in mind she made the offer.

The tournament staff, dealers, floor personel, and the registration staff were very pleasant. The tournament was a lot of fun. This is what makes it a shame.

This is the second and last time that I will play this tournament unless someone can tell me I'm wrong re: the #'s.

    I really appreciate Bally's after this ' experience '

    More info

Jim. Sorry to hear you complaints with the GS tournament, they might be valid. I know that they were concerned about not being full right up to the last minute and I heard a couple of guys talking about how they got calls from their hosts to come play for free. I don't know how many they did comp, but obviously it must have been several. Then I also heard from my host when I checked in that they had a waiting list. I think they got jittery when they thought it wasn't going to be full, so they filled it up with freebies. That might not be fair, but if they only had 100 players show up they did guarantee the prizes, and I don't think people would complain in that case.... As far as I know they paid out exactly what they promised in each round.

    One addition

One thing to add, I spoke to a guy who played at the Grand tournament earlier in the month and came in second there. He said they paid him a little extra due to getting more rebuys that they anticipated. I think he said he got $26,000 instead of the $25,000.

I don't know if either casino advertised they would pay out 100% of buyins, but that was nice of the Grand to do that. It would be nice of all casinos to do that.

    gOLD sTRIKE eNTRIES

PLEASE NOTE MY POST ON 11/9 STATING THAT I HAD TALKED WITH THE CASINO HOST WHO TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE 239 PAID ENTRIES AT THAT TIME. Also at that time I paid a $500 entry fee.

    Let me understand

So they had 239 paid entries, but they had 268 total entries, is this correct?
Lets see that is $500 X 29 players = $14,500. What about re-buys did they comp them as well?

IT sounds like the Gold Strike had all the paid entries cover their VIP's. I don't care if a casino makes a little to cover their cost, but to cover all their comped VIP players really SUCKS!

If they are going to comp them thet should put in their entries. They would still come out cheaper then just hosting a straight VIP and putting up all the prize money.

I didn't play the Gold Strike, but if the stories I have been hearing are true then I would ever play it. Please tell me someone messed up the totals and that a big casino like the Gold Strike really didn't screw the players around that bad.

    Gold Strike Tournament

    1. There were numerous requests for comps from what I heard from the Director of Marketing but no one was comped. There were two advertising tradeouts and their Director of Advertising and Marketing told me she paid those.
    2.There were only 116 re-buys.
3.The literature said the guarenteed the $$$ regardless of the turn out and unless the Grand changed things at the last tournament ( I missed it) they have never guarenteed the prize money.

    Three differant totals?

Sounds like no one at Gold Strike knows how many players they had. Like I said earlier I don't have a problem with them covering their cost, but they really need to know how many players paid and the number of re-buys as well and post them for the players then it would eliminate these problems.

The New Frontier posts the entries and re-buys for all to see plus $1,200 to $1,500 taken out to cover cost and no one gets up set over it. Sounds like Gold Strike needs to start do the same, as long as their not trying to hide any extra money.
