Would anyone here be interested in getting together for a BlackjackTournaments.com dinner during the upcoming trip to Vegas?

Many of our contributors will be in Las Vegas for the Hilton and subsequent events, so I thought it might be nice to get together.

I'll throw out some ideas, and some possible nights:

At the Hilton, Benihana, or the Mexican restaurant whose name escapes me.
If you're interested in a liquid-oriented gathering instead, how about meeting at the Gordon Biersch brewpub for a few excellent lagers.

Possible nights: Thursday, Friday or Sunday, May 13th, 14th or 16th. Thursday conflicts with Sunset Station's Mini, and other of these dates may conflict with the Super-Mini being organized.

    Let's hear your thoughts/interest.

    Friday 14?

Ken, Friday 14th sounds good for getting together, no SUPER-MINI's on Friday.

And thanks for inviting all of us out for a free steak dinner while we're in Vegas...LOL. Nice to see your going to put your $10,000 WSOB winnings to good use...LOL.

    Let's make it interesting...

Friday does seem to make sense. We need to get an idea of how many people are interested, so post here if you'll be in Vegas that Friday and would like to join us. Then we'll figure out where.

And, despite Tx's post, I'm afraid I already sent all my WSoB money off to Uncle Sam!

If you'd like to make it interesting, how's this? Whoever has the highest total chip count in the Hilton's first day of play buys a round of drinks. Let's say they also have to advance, because otherwise they won't be in a sociable mood. So, highest advancing chip count among the Hilton competitors on Friday buys a round. Or, would lowest advancing chip count be more interesting?

In the case of a tie, that's two rounds!

    Count me in!

And if I advance out of the first round...I'll buy a round - highest chip count or not! Also, I have tentative plans (depending on the weather) to get a cabana at the pool on Thursday late morning. If any of you are around, please feel free to join me. If the dinner is on Friday, there would be two of us.
    Thanks.

    I almost feel bad.

I didn't realize your winnings from the WSOB were gone, but you forget I was there when you hit your (4) video poker jackpot this month. Come to think of it I'm ordering a shrimp cocktail as well...LOL.

    another four

Here we are - another four. Lowest chip count sounds better - advancing by surprise! Ken, I hope most of us will be in a social mood because of success in the first round (let's hope). Hollywood, good luck to you in your "bracelet ivent" (free dinner sounds great).
Right before the big Finals that will be unforgetable evening.

    Nine and counting...

    So, we're nine and counting.

Hollywood likes the Benihana idea, and that sounds good to me. Each table at Benihana seats approximately 10 people I think, so we'll start populating a second table as others chime in. I'll call and ask about table size later, and post what I find.

BTW, Good luck in your poker event Hollywood!

    Dinner!!!!!

Make it 11 please :D . My husband and I would love to join you. I think that Benihanas has tables for 16-20 possibly. I think the highest chip winner should buy drinks :D . Any one care to wager who that will be???????

    How about?

I was going to be with my wife, daughter in law to be and her friend. I think most of us well be with spouse or other. I can see just one table just for each group of 4 - 5 of us. Maybe having dinner together then go to the bar area up front for our discussions will be better.

As far as betting on the tournament, if everyone wants to bet why not have a calcutta? All of us that wants to bet on the out come can be auctioned off after dinner. This way we can buy not only our self but other players as well. Remember it is customary to sell upto half of the person you buy to them if they want to. The winner will be the person that advances the furthest in the finals. I think this will also draw more interest to our group.

Each player starts at $20 and we bid on that player until all the players involved are sold. We can also pay 2nd, & 3rd as well, something like this:
    1st = 50%, 2nd = 30%, & 3rd = 20% of the total prize pool.

*Note: Wild Cards do not count as advancement in this format. Once you lose your out of the calcutta. In case of tie money will be split between all winners. Ken and I will hold the money in a safe deposit box at the Hilton until were all out or have won (I hope the later).

    Sounds like an overlay

How can I turn down dinner by Dave and free drinks from a variety of posters. I'll be there !

I don't think Benihana will work.

I called to check, and Benihana's Teppan tables seat only eight people, which I don't see as workable for us. How about some other ideas, on-property or off?

Ideally, if we're talking about organizing a Calcutta, it would be nice to have an area where we can eat, drink and organize all in the same spot. Is there any reason to prefer a site away from the Hilton because of the Calcutta?

I assume payouts from the Calcutta would take place at the Hilton banquet Saturday night (informally of course).

    What about?

If we hold a Calcutta it has to be done on Thursday (before the tournament starts). Why not hold the Calcutta in the ballroom after the wild card drawing on Thursday, everybody will be there?

Friday: We eat at Benihana's then hold our discussions in the lounge area up front (at Benihana's) or at the club bar across the hall way? This way the spouces don't have to suffer through our tournament talk at dinner (or as much...lol).

    What is a Calcutta ?

Just thought I'd post this explanation from the web. I didn't know what it was.

"A 'Calcutta', or "auction pool" is an event held in conjunction with a golf tournament, horse race, or similar contest with multiple entrants.
Accordingly participants (in Calcutta, from where this was first recorded by the Colonial British) bid among themselves to "buy" each of the contestants, each contestant being assigned to the highest bidder. The bids are pooled, and after the contest the pool is divided among those players who won the winning contestants at auction, divided according to proportions agreed upon in advance (often in the same proportions as the prize money awarded in the event itself)."

    Blackjacktournaments.com Blackackjack tournament

Ken when are you going to host a Blackjack tournament? Have all your members vote on the "PREFECT TOURNAMENT FORMAT" and we'll all get together.

Of course you'll throw $25,000 in the pot like Bally's right?...lol

All kidding aside, what about putting on something like I was going to do here in Texas? Host back-back-back tournaments,Thursday - Sunday. The three tournaments is a hugh draw, plus if held towards the end of the week and weekend will enable more players to attended.

Start the tournaments at 4:00 PM Thursday and play Round 1, and reeentries and finish up the next day, then start a new one at 4:00 PM again and so on. This would give players a chance to travel and play on the same day and cut out all the waisted time in between tournaments.

Have a bonus like I was having, if anyone wins two of the three they win a new Harley Davidson motorcycle or win all three they win a Million Dollars.

    Count Me In

I am now back in Vegas and want to thank those of you who sent condolences.

Having been on Wong's various sites for many years, might I suggest a gettogether away from the casinos. You are all certainly welcome at my home, which is large enough to have all of you for a cocktail party and which will avoid the obvious interferences. It would have to be BYOB, as I am not even allowed in the Hilton and have no winnings to apply to drinks. Fri early evening would be perfect and then we can break out into smaller groups for dinner.
The other choice is to get a private area in a restaurant and everybody would chipin to pay the total bill for food and drinks. I leave it up to the Administrator to work it out. But whatever you all decide. COUNT ME IN!

That's a generous offer Tinker, and it's much appreciated. But I think our best bet is a non-casino restaurant. Let's see what the numbers look like by Wednesday, and we can plan further. We're at 17 now.
