Define "Everything". The forum has recent posts. Are you referring to the event calendar? If so, it is maintained on a volunteer basis by the members. If you see incorrect information, then please correct it.
The events are accurate particularly the single events. Daily, weekly and monthly events are too numerous to be able to keep track of them. Often casinos will drop or change events. People are more likely to update occurring events than delete dropped events.
yes before I drive 420 miles to tunica or Biloxi I make sure tournament is on those dates then I make a call for a room ... also the other old stuff on here I have read and re-read and will read again
Perhaps the calendar has outlived its usefulness. At this point, I am sure that the majority of the listings are for events that no longer exist. With the overall decline in events, we have seen a corresponding decline in the community. The result has been fewer posts and edits to the calendar. It seems to me that it may be time to retire it. It probably causes more problems than it solves these days. Thoughts? It's no longer my decision, but I would be willing to work with the new owners to remove the function in a clean way if needed.
I also use it to make plans for the future. In do my best to keep the events in my area up to date. Perhaps we just need some way for folks to query which events they have added so that they can manage them more easily. Or perhaps a quarterly reminder sent to those who have added events so that they can clean up the stale ones.
One option might be to add an extra field to the available search criteria; something like: 'Updated Since: <date>'. People could use that to filter out events which are likely to be out of date.
When I started the thread I didn't want to come across as negative and it would be a great shame if the calendar was either removed or allowed to fall into disrepair.... Sadly I live in a country that has few to no tournaments, so any offer of help from me would be pretty futile. However, surely there must be a few in the US that could keep on top of things ? Or perhaps it's self defeating and they'd rather keep the info to themselves. That's a big issue when it comes to this sort of info....
I think you'll find that the members of this site are very supportive of one another and genuinely interested in promoting the success of blackjack tournaments and casino tournament in general. We enjoy meeting one another and competing against one another. These days, a big part of that is making sure that events are well attended. There may be some who decline to post events for the reason you mention but for the most part, I don't think that is the case among the regulars here. As with any volunteer effort, we get out of it what we put in. For example, did you cancel those dead events that you found on the calendar? If not, why not? [edit] I see now that you did. Thanks!
Yep, totally agree with what you said. I'll happily keep my end up as far as I can in the UK but I don't think there are many here. I'm going to phone all the major casino chains to find out if any are still doing tournaments and if so, where. Are there any regular online tournaments ?
I don't think headquarters will necessarily know what individual casinos are up to, except for the (very) occasional big, coordinated event. You might be better off contacting all your local casinos directly.
I would hate to see the calendar disappear. For sure it could stand some cleanup. Everyone who uses this site regularly can pitch in and help clean up.
Oh HELL no, please don't remove the calendar!! For some of us it is the best (only?) decent source of news about BJT possibilities. Granted, sometimes the info is outdated but the onus in on the player to personally contact the host casino for verification. I cannot begin to estimate how many BJT's I have attended that I'd never heard of until stumbling across them here.
Absolutely keep the calendar. In fact, I just posted 2 new tournaments: Beau Rivage $50,000 January 21-23 and The Orleans $30,000 April 23-25. I'll post the Buffalo Run $40,000 April 21-22 tournament as soon as Cindy gets back to me with the updated information. Tropicana has a 30K tournament January 18-21 and a 100K March 22-25, but I have no details. In recent years their tournaments have employed ridiculous rules and high re-buy costs.
