My daughter says that Ken got 86ed on the cruise for playing a CSM. I think he holds the record now for getting 86ed on cruises! At least they just asked him not to play instead of throwing him overboard.

    Bastards!

Perhaps they are getting information from the "evil empire". More likely they are just complete fools. Hopefully everyone associated with the tournament will boycott the casino. :flame:

Has the sinister Smith overcome the CSM? lol Good lord...Guess thats the price of being known as the BJ god....lol

There must be some real morons heading up this BJ business.

    86ed

    I'm confused...

1- are you talking about Rick's BJ cruise ?

2- Does CSM mean continous shuffle machine ?

3- In the restaurant industry, 86ed mean to take an item temporarily off the menu..what does it mean here ?

    1 - Yes
    2 - Yes
3 - Most likely will not be able to play during cruise.

Which I think is silly, with the CSM's I didn't think that card counting was an issue anymore. I must be wrong.

    Not wrong

CSM's are rarely countable. Most places will place all discards back into the machine after each hand, thereby eliminating any edge gained by counting. A few places will deal several hands, perhaps up to 1.5 decks before returning to the machine. In this case you may gain a slight edge, usually only played by a "back counter".

csm CONTINOUS shuffle machines ...key word continous...

If someones telling you they can be counted and somehow an advantage had then I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

There are shuffle machines that simply mix up 4,5,6,7 or 8 decks but these are not CSM's....they mix all the cards in as they are discarded....you can look at whats played on the table...thats it!

Someone moved off a CSM game is dealing with a mentally ill pit boss.

    Misread Post?

Rando, I think you need to reread Walt's post again carefully with emphasis on his sentences beginning "Most places will place all discards" and "A few places will deal". Without being on the cruise we don't know if the cards were inserted in the CSM after each hand as normal or perhaps after one or two decks were dealt, remember the cards are inserted manually and only shuffled continuously after being inserted.

I agree with you being 86'd from a CSM is extreme and unusual but will advise you if Walt makes an offer on your bridge you better have it appraised again, you probably have it priced too cheap.

Any CSM I have ever seen the dealer placed the cards in the nachine continously...there is no place for them to hold 2 decks out...

    Its a great bridge very pretty...great designer...real cheap....lol

    Ok

Not seeing the world CONTINUOUSLY (SWC) I am careful not to state what I have seen is universal, I thought only Taxes and Death were absolute fact but this is only what I've observed in my small little world. I have for a fact observed CSM tables with a discard tray and the cards were inserted into the machine it seemed at the dealers discretion, sometimes after 1 table hand and sometimes after 2 or more without any set pattern.

If you'll send me the original structural plans for your bridge and the maintainance records for the last 5 years I may be interested, our local drought is due to end.

    Explanation..

While I've never seen a blackjack table without a discard rack, I'll try to explain the procedures I've seen. In the majority of casinos, the deal begins with a full machine. The cards are dealt. Seat 1 busts. The cards are gathered and placed in the discard rack. Seat 2 receives a blackjack, is paid, and the two cards are placed in the discard rack. The rest of the table stands. When these remaining hands are resolved, the cards are picked up in order and placed in the discard rack. They are then taken out of the discard rack and put back in the CSM. Some casinos deal more than one hand before putting the cards back into the machine. Including the Beau Rivage and several mega resorts on the strip. The number of hands dealt before re-insertion apparently depends on management, but if you watch a few rounds you will find the dealer replaces the cards after a set number of hands quite consistently. If enough cards are dealt before replacing them in the machine, a brave counter may try his luck. And he knows exactly how many rounds are left. There are no mid-shoe entry limitations on these games and multiple hands can be played.
Hope that clears things up a bit.

    Some CSMs were beatable.

I once read at some BJ website that some early CSMs only shuffled the top clump of 15 cards together. Therefore if say two rounds were delt where a lot of aces and 10's are delt out then by counting out 245 cards (where 5 decks are used) the rich clump would be due to come out. I don't know how CSMs that I play against operate today.

Based on what I know about Ken, I wouldn't be surprised if he was just playing to be social, kill time and support the cruise before the next round of a SnG, by playing a little bit of -EV BJ. And the cruise line was just so paranoid of having a bunch of BJ pros on board that they didn't want to take a chance. God knows they certainly wouldn't know much about how to spot a card counter on a ship.

I also wouldn't be shocked if there was some other aspect that Ken was taking advantage of, like a dealer exposing her hold card.

I sat at one of these CSM games once to kill time between rounds. I limited myself to a friendly 100 bucks..(10 dollar min if I recall) and got up 1 1/2 hours later with $5,500...comped rooms and dinner for my son and I at the hot spot...lol

Whatever pattern I was being dealt ...I could not loose...Am I convinced these CSM games can be beaten ??? NO WAY!!

This is a BAD game and should be avoided along with 6/5 BJ...in fact I complain to every pit lizzard at every joint I enter that offers too much CSM game...Its a rip
    ...dont ever think otherwise.

    Was Ken dealing the cards?

Maybe Ken was actually dealing the cards and the pit critters didn't like his way:

Must have sound for this one, and it's very good. "G"-rated, too.
You'll rarely hear me say "G-rated" and "very good" in the same breath.

Funny you should say that as whilst at Barona due to most shoe tables being full I sat on a dreaded CSM table for around an hour and as you said just seemed stuck in a pattern where could not loose, was 2 of us on table, as soon as a 3rd person joined spell was broken and i got up and left, Was a discussion about this with some pro's at Barona but never thought more of it.

    Just back!

Yes, it was true! At our registration on the first night the casino manager came in to give all of the players $25 promotion chips (5 - $5 chips).

At that time he informed me that Mr. Smith was requested not to play any of the card games in the casino.

What is so funny about this is the is the games are so back (21 games) that Ken wouldn't have played them anyway.

I think Ken did well enough in the tournaments anyway. He made the final table on the first tournament and dominated in the sit & goes.

I'll post all the results later tonight, I just got to my hotel room and I'm about to drop.
