4 players remaining at the table, winner advances to the final table. I'm leading by 200 and I have to bet and play first. All players bet 2000, the max bet. I'm dealt a hard 13, other players dealt hard hands ranging from 13 to 16. Dealer has an 8 showing. Should I stay or double down?

I think double since the others will and 1 may win.

I definitely like the double. You need to hit anyway to keep up with the field. If you bust, you're probably toast whether you doubled or not.

It's unfortunate that you have such a high risk of busting, but that's just the way it goes.

    Hi Jim,
Did you state your question properly? Being the savvy veteran tourney player, that I know you are, I doubt that you gave much consideration to "standing" with the hard 13 with 3 people acting behind you.
I concur with John and Ken that double down is the right play.

Nice to see the return of questions based on situations from live tournament play! I'll join the chorus and say double.

    Gronbog,
I was thinking you would give the percentage of going the other way of not hit and making the other 3 double their busting hands.

I would need the exact bankrolls, bets, hands and your assessment of which of your opponents would double vs just hitting for a swing. Surely none of them would be dumb enough to also stand if you did?

    jamesmcnulty,

Wondering if you stayed or doubled? Also did any other BJT folks do any good?

I was at that tournament and may have been at your table because I remember I was behind by $200 doubled my hand and made 21 as did the dealer, so I pushed while everyone else lost and advanced to the final

Double for less? Let experienced player DD and bust, or hit 21 as he did? Let inexperienced player stand. You get the low?

Did the final 6 chop evenly?

Everyone wanted to chop but one guy wanted to play, as usual that guy took last place, I ended up 2nd, The final hand I was in 2nd place with $9700 br1 had $10,000 I got to bet after him he made a max bet of $2,000 I bet $1600 cards are BR1 20 me 19 dealer shows Ace but doesn't have blackjack or I would have won, thought about doubling but BR3 had a max bet of 2000 and had 18 and BR4 had 2000 bet and had 19 if I doubled and broke it would have knocked me down to 5th place so I stood dealer broke and I got 2nd $15,000
