Blew through Meskwaki this week. Pit says tournament the second week of Oct. And an upbeat note from one of the dealers....a $100 table paid out just short of $100,000 on a Friday night to a single player. Love that. Best to all here.
Good news, thanks. I will be interested to see if they contact each of us who played in the spring tournament, like they told us they would.
Unfortunately If the event is the second week of October------we'll be lucky to know about it before the end of September. Billy C
Nice surprise I received my invitation this AM. Says 50k in prize money but it doesn't say if it's guaranteed or not. The only real negative I see is the $150 for two night hotel stay. Hopefully some or all of that has comp possibilities. Billy C
Received mine too today The Englishman was true to his word about that. I am signed up. Get ready for a Rube's steak !
Will do------as I indicated, it just says 50k in prizes. Seems like they typically guarantee first place (20-30k?) but my memory is bad on the others. Billy C
Details? I wish the details were less sketchy. Their website says unlimited rebuys but doesn't say how much? Anyone remember from April? They don't say what a "full tournament" is either. I'm glad to see that sweet william (and hopefully others from KC) will attend. Billy C
A short report Meskwaki had about 120 original entrants and many, many rebuys. One individual told me that he rebought three times. I was lucky enough to not need a rebuy but then I lost in round #2. First place paid close to 12k. They've changed the format to something more like Kewadin's events (less rounds because of less advancers). They drew 7 wildcards into the second round, 4 into the semis and 1 to the final table. Our jonny21 was in the semis but had the well known last hand bad luck. I left immediately after the last drawing so I don't know the results but I'm quite certain that none of our members made the final table. A staff member told me that the casino ponied up for the $3600 dealer tip fund so that was a nice improvement that kept more in the purse for prizes. The staff was all their typically friendly and competent group (maybe even more so) and they sound very committed to future events. They gave us dates for both April and October next year and they still have a desire for doing a LARGE purse (half a million?) tournament at some point. The $75 per night room charge is seen as a negative but like all casinos, comps can make all or part of that go away, as I found out. I'd definitely recommend this venue to anyone living remotely close. Two thumbs up, even though video poker beat me up this trip. The casino upped the food generosity from last time, too. Besides providing plenty to eat at the reception, they gave us FULL breakfasts each morning of the event and two $10 vouchers that more than covered total food expense for me. Billy C
April 12-14 My monthly mailer (February) shows the "Meskwaki Classic Blackjack Tournament" with $50,000 in prize money will be April 12-14th. Says prize money is based on 240 entries. Billy C
Wrong? There appears to be some confusion regarding the dates for this event. Their website now says it's a week later (April 19-21) Billy C
Flyer says Just got a flyer. Fri. April 19 to Sunday April 21st. 5$ add on gets additional $500 in chips for round one and round two. 1st place 45% 2nd 20% 3rd 15% 4th 10% 5th 7% 6th 3% Semi finishers get $200. Wild cards in rounds 2 and 3 and one wild for final table. Rebuys $50.Only one advances !!! $350 entry for full package or $200 without food or room. Reception Friday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Full House Cafe. Everything else looks abut the same as usual Max. 240 people. Above is from the Rules and Schedule Flyer. Smitty
I'm sure that the second person would only have to pay the $200 for tournament entry (2nd person probably doesn't get the food voucher though). Billy C
The flyer does not address that question. I did not talk to anyone about it, I just got the flyer given to me. I'm certain Billy c. has it right though, makes sense.
No Guarantee There is no guaranteed first place amount listed, just the percentages. No cut for dealer tips listed.
My recommendation for Pill and others It could be worth Pill's time to call Tama and ask about this. The fact that both he and his wife always give them substantial side play may present some leverage for a better deal. Meskwaki hasn't had a guaranteed "first" prize amount for the last several events there. In October the casino ponied up the 3k for the dealer tip fund. Having the dates out at least twice as early as any of the previous events is very apt to help with turnout. I'm aware of at least two newcomers already. I'm hoping for (and actually expecting) a large field for this one. It would be nice seeing some that haven't been there in a while. Billy C
locals Here is the problem for the April event, locals sign up and then the weather turns nice and they cancel so they can get in the fields or do outside things. Seats end up unfilled and the casino gives free seats to high rollers to try adn fill the spots. The money is less and with no guarantee people are not very excited. Then they look around and decide not to bother with a rebuy...so ...even less fo rthe pot. They know the drawing will fill the empty slots anyway. Last year there were so many names drawn it became a joke. The pot was so low people just went home. Whatever. The flavor was not the same without Sarah J.
October was good (in my opinion) smitty, I'm sure you're referring to the April event only from last year because the October event had MANY rebuys. So many that 1st place paid almost 12k. Seems like 2nd paid over 7k. Billy C
