New "BJT Attendees" concept

I'm trying out an idea here to manage a list of who will be attending an event listed on the calendar.

Feel free to try it out by visiting a tournament on the calendar, and click the links under BJT Attendee List.

If it seems to be a useful addition, I'll likely roll out more visibility across the site.
    Feedback welcome.

Note that weekly or monthly events don't have an attendee list function.

    Calendar Addition

I think it is a very nice addition.
If you just want to confess to attendance without adding any comments or very brief comments it is easy.
I also like the idea of not having to wade through posts just to see who is planning on showing up to an event.

    Great Addition.

I don't get around too much but it great to see a listing of who's gonna be at the events in my area.

I still have mixed feelings about the feature so far, but more changes were installed today.

Recent additions to the attendee data can be viewed with the "Attendee Notices" link in the menu at left. You can also view a particular user's listings, and a particular event's listings.

A quick note as to where I think this feature is most useful. I plan to integrate a display of a handful of important upcoming tournaments into the site. I figured that BJT member attendance should be a key factor in deciding which events to highlight.

    Sorting Attendees List

    Ken

I like the new attendees listing, but....would it be possible to enable sorting the list by tournament? Or, have a listing of upcoming tournaments with attendees, that would be easily and quickly accessable? Would be a nice and useful feature.

A list of the "most attended" tournaments is on the way.

In the meantime, you can of course go to a specific event to see who is attending.

    Attendee feature

I really like the feature alot gives me a chance to pick and choose tournaments based on who is playing.

One little issue if I need to bow out I can't seem to change my attendee status. So I assume I just change the comments to something like "sorry wont make it".

    Still really like the feature.

Yes, I agree there needs to be a way to revise your status. In the meantime the comments will serve just fine.

    Culling Attendees list

Is it possible to have old entries for tournaments already played removed from the list? Otherwise, the list will just eventually fill up with outdated entries.

Also, can a facility be added so that one can sort the list, say, by tournament? Or, by date?

I just noticed the separate "Attendee Notices" so I took a look. Unless I'm missing something, this is a log, in entry date order, of attendee postings. Like most any log, it's of limited value as long as it stays in the order of posting date. Sorting by casino would be better but that would only duplicate the information already available on the calender posting.

My preference would be to sort by member name. That would allow one to see, in a single convenient location, which events a given member is planning to attend. Currently, that information is not easily attainable.

Also, I agree with RKuczek - the "Attendee Notices" should only contain future events - eliminate past events. Past events are of limited, if any, value and the volume will become overwhelming especially if sorting were done by member name or casino. If I want to see if John Doe listed himself as attending a past tournament, I could just look up the calender posting.

In closing, I think it's great that Ken Smith is continually making efforts to improve this site. A critical assessment of most any situation is the only way improvements and new ideas evolve. Bravo, Ken, Bravo!!!

Thanks for all the input. It's most appreciated.

I've been slowed down by the need to integrate all these changes into a new version of vBulletin, but more improvements are on the way.

In the meantime, I'll mention one relevant item. After viewing the Attendee Notices list using the link at left, you can click on a username and see the attendee information for that member only.

I do agree that the lists are cluttered with past events, and I'll be making some sort of change for that. Definitely still a work in progress, albeit slow progress. :D

I see you are one step ahead of me ;) . I also see that clicking on the Tournament Name takes you directly to the calender listing for that event. Both are nice touches - clicking on the Username and the Tournament Name. So a very short one sentence instruction for this feature seems to be in order - similar to the instruction on the "Recent Event Updates" listing.

Need a way to Remove Mysefl from Tournament Attendee List

I've added myself as an attendee at an upcoming tournament, however, it turns out that I will. instead, be attending another tournament. I don't see a way to remove myself as an attendee of the first tournament. Am I missing something?

No option yet exists for removing your name. In the meantime you can add a comment saying you will not be there.

UPDATE from Dec 2014: This is now easily accomplished, ever since the new version of the site launched a year or two ago.

One thing that I miss about the old implementation of this is that I was able to see a list of all tournaments I had attended in the past. I seem to recall that this was done by clicking on my name in the attendees list. I don't seem to be able to do that anymore. Clicking on my name now takes me to my profile page. Am I missing something? If not, would it be easy to bring that feature back? If it's a privacy issue, perhaps it could be implemented so that one can only see one's own attendance history.

I agree that was a nice feature, and I'll consider it for implementation in the new version.

Hopefully I can find some time to work on this site a bit soon.
For the last four months, I've been buried in my current project, a full redesign at BlackjackInfo.
The new version there is finally going to be phone and tablet friendly. If things go well, I'm hoping to launch it before year end.
