Sad news again I'm afraid. I just got news that Fred Heilman passed away today. Fred was an ever-present force in the Vegas tournaments, though perhaps his most famous role came when his oft-times playing partner Sam Vaughn split the Hilton MDBJT $1M first prize with him. (See the interview with Sam Vaughn.) Fred's friendly presence at all these events will sure be missed by all who knew him.
Yes, I received this sad news yesterday. I think the first time I met Fred was at a Stardust tournament well over 20 years ago. What a nice fellow he was. His gruff voice certainly belied the true gentleman that he was. He suffered a stroke several years ago that slowed his mobility but he still maintained a good attitude and his pleasant ways throughout. Rest in Peace, Fred! Billy C
