The man who started the UBT ball rolling wins tonite's Bet21 tournament to win a seat to the St Kitts event later this month!

Ace Donovan makes a valiant effort but falls just shy, at 3rd place...

A great match, and some good laughs to be had throughout -- sidebets of $1000 and more on who would win it, lead changes every other hand, but i guess at the end of the day... skill takes it down!

    Congrats to Russ

It was a fun tourney. Would have been more fun if I was for sure on my way to St Kitts, but oh well. Watching the chat was hilarious and I thank those of you who were cheering my sorry ass on. :joker:

I put Russ on a smaller bet on the elimination hand and thought he was trying to bluff me into doubling my hard 17 with his split on his secret bet. I was wrong. I guess I'm the only one that tries shady crap like that taking the low. He played it straight up :)

That may be the last $200 tourney I play, but St Kitts still may be in my future if some other things go as planned. We'll see.

See you at the Spearmint Rhino, HD.

    Hummmm.....

Was archaman who finished second not disconnected (absent) during the last two critical hands? I think he stood on an 11 on the last hand.
What was that all about?

    Just curious

How does it make you feel to plunk down a couple hundred to then be beat by the or an "UB Ambassador" Isnt he an employee of UB? Why not give the little guys an open field of no potential conflict of interest to play in?

    And another thing....

Hollywood: you have taken the term "Team UBT" to a new level with your coaching of Russ from the chat line. I don't think that Russ needed or was looking for your help. Not very fair to archaman.
Coaching from the chat line is an issue that needs to be addressed by Bet21/UB. In the meantime, observers with a modicum of ethics should refrain from offering advice to players during tournament play, similar to exixting policies of B&M casinos.:joker: :joker: :joker:

I recommended in an email just after launch that chat should be limited to players who are at (or were at) the table. I still think that would be a worthwhile change.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping archaman posts here about his experience. He is a member here.

    Barney,

I didn't make it to the final table last night but I was there for the $200 tourney. I believe that Russ was one of the final people to register and thus make it a go. Without 30 people the tourney would have been cancelled.

The beauty of the whole system is that it allows everyone, and I mean everyone, the opportunity to play against one another. I look forward to testing my skills agains the Russ Hamilton, Ken Smith and Kenny E's of the BJ world.

I've got a half dozen TEC points from playing on UBT. I stopped playing at the 1.00 and 5.00 tables because it gets boring after awhile. Don't get me wrong there are plenty, and I do mean plenty, of good players at those tables but the majority are just ploppies.

As long as everything is on the up and up I say bring them on! I look forward to the day when I can play against a UBT Team member every night for 50 a tourney.

Don't bash Russ or other players who will be in St. Kitts for playing in those tourney's. If you use that criteria you're not going to be seeing very many of those tourneys running.

Do you think it was wrong of Ken Smith to win a St. Kitts 200 table? He's a UBT superstar. A final table finalist, master BJ player and he's dubbed the Yado of BJT.com - but I didn't hear you complaining about Ken participating. I urge you to be consistent - and get a new freaking computer and play with the big boys (and girls) at Bet21.com :p

Could it be possible that I was disconnected On my screen, I doubled up, saw the card fall and saw the 21. If I was disconnected and then reconnected, how can we check. Customer Support only give me their read ot the last hand.

What are the consequences of a disconnect. I'm not technical. Is it possible to be disconnected and still see the screen and make plays. This would explain the way I saw absent come in

On the last hand, on my screen, I saw one spot lighted, it was Russ, mine was not.

    Not technical either, but......

Archie: correct me if I am wrong. I thought that you were able to place your bet size but were not able to act on your hand.??????

Doesn't really make a difference to me who it was

    I lost.

To me it doesn't really matter to whom I did it to. It could have been Russ Hamilton, it could have been you (if you ever got that PC), or it could have been a random wildcat bettor.

Bottom line to me was that there was going to be someone else at that table regardless. Both Russ and archaman hit near all-in bets to stay in the game right before that elimination, so as far as I'm concerned I could have lost to anyone in that situation.

Also, if Russ didn't play, the tournament wouldn't have happend. There was only 30 players. Without him it would have been 29 and cancelled.

I had my shot. I lost.

    Observer chat

I quite like the observer chat although coaching is out of order and I have had cause to comment on it in a game before (and mainly because they were giving bad advice!) I believe you can turn off observer chat in your options menu.

    Cheers

Disconnect, reconnect. It seems to be the story, in my eyes, at this point.

Russ spot was lighted for a long time, then the absent message appeared on my side of the board and was not there before. My eyes never left the screen. From my perspective, everything seemed to be going fine up to that point and I was able to act. So, it could be that if Iwas reconnected at that time, then I was not able to act. This would explain it. You say that on the previous hand, you could not understand why I did not double up. Well I did. On my screen I could act and I did double up and made 21 (hand #29). I saw the card fall down and saw the face card showing 21 at the end, so if you did not see it, I was disconnected.

    Not sure what happened

I was watching the final few hands and with Archaman BR1 and on the button for the last hand I was wondering if he would take the low or high?

Then "Absent" popped up and a $1,000 minimun bet was automaticly made. Russ followed with a $40,000 bet to cover any BJ or DD by archaman.

Archaman did catch an 11 (8/3) and had no action on it. I wasn't sure what happened, I didn't know if he was timed out or disconnected.

Archaman still could have won had Russ lost his hand. Actually in archaman's situation I would have bet small and taken the low anyway with the lead and on the button.

Before Ace Donavan was eliminated on hand 25 the lead changing almost ever hand between the three of them, it was a fun game to watch. It was like a high scoring football game where the team with the ball last win's.

It was sad that it had to end that way, but I just thought archaman was timed out on the last hand. :(

    Alarming

    Hi,

I wasn't one of the observers, but if that is what happened then it rings all sorts of alarm bells in my mind. (As well as being particulary unfortunate for you of course :( )

Your local, disconnected PC (if that is what it was) should have no knowledge of what the next card(s) in the shoe are. They should come, one at a time, form the server. (And if the server knows it sent you a ten, it knows you made 21.)

Unless I'm misunderstanding, there surely ought to be no possible way for things to play out the way you describe?

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

The good- Yours truly made $500 on a side bet by taking Russ Hamilton and AceDonovan. I gave Archaman and Kid55 at 2:1 odds. I could have lost $1,000 but to the victor goes the spoils.

The Bad- We'll never know if Archaman should have been the one going to St. Kitts.

The Ugly- Bet21 continues to have problems with putting people absent at the most inopportune times.

Customer support gave me a review of hand 30. I am now asking them to check hand 29. Here is the message I sent to Customer support :
I now think that I was disconnected on the 29th hand and reconnected on the 30th. This would explain what I saw. On hand #29, for example, BJFan4 tells me that I did not take a card on 11. Well, I know I did because I remember seing the card fall and seeing the face card turned up at the end of the hand giving me 21. Would you check hand 29 also to see if I'm correct. If positve, this would confirm the disconnect.
