Tonight may be World Blackjack Tour show

The TV schedule for tonight still says 'World Series of Blackjack' in the 11 PM Eastern time slot on GSN.

But, since last week was the WSOB IV finale, and based on last year's schedule, I think tonight might be the World Blackjack Tour show instead. We'll see.

Which country wins? Does Reachy bring it home for the Queen? :)

    On Her Majesty's Service

Obviously I can't say anything about the show but I can reveal that the Queen did send me a personal message before the game. She said:

"You better **** those ******' septics up and bring it home for me else I gonna cut **** ***** off you piece of ****!"

    Cheers

PS. With the above comment I have actually committed treason and can now be legally hung by the neck in one of Her Majesty's docks after spending some time in the Tower of London

    Welcome back Reachy

Glad to see you back Reachy. Guess everyone will have to wait until December to finally see you on TV. Hope your not hung by then.

I was hoping to copy the show (World Blackjack Tour) and send you a copy and also give Andy a copy when he comes over for the Seattle TBJPA events later this month.

Like Reachy I can't say who wins, but I can tell everyone what countries were represented:

England, Scotland, Columbia, Korea, and America.

    Poland was in the WSOB!

Poland may not have been in the WBT, but it was in the WSOB and was represented very well by two players.

Glad to have you back posting again, hope all is well at home.

    Across the pond

I do believe that blackjack tournaments will eventually arrive in the UK and they will probably come via the TBJPA, WSOB or UBT organisations in some kind of franchised format.

The recent loss of the Super Casino bid in Manchester and the rest of the UK is a major blow. A large casino, whose remit by the government was to stage responsible gambling, would have in my view been snapped up by the proprietors to hold BJ tournament events.

Also, the majority of the bidders for the Super Casinos were American backed and they knew the score when it comes to hosting tournaments.

I have never thought that it would be a particular problem to ask a casino manager over here to stage a tournament providing there were enough participants who were interested. The problem is always with the dealers who do not understand tournament format and rules such as surrender etc that is alien to British casinos and their personnel.

Personally, I don’t’ think any major BJ tournaments will take place in the UK unless American promoters and dealers are brought over here to train up the casino staff.

    That’s my view.

    Nuts

Actually I've been toying with the idea of nicking the 'business model' from the pub poker leagues like the Nuts League or Poker in the Pub and starting a TBJ Pub League. Introduce it at grass roots rather than top-down...

Incidentally am I correct in thinking that some bars in the US have blackjack tables and can operate without gaming licenses because they run them as a charity?

First of all - Bet21 wouldn't like your "Nuts League" one little bit..... :D

The answer to your question probably varies by state. Here in Michigan, public bars/ pubs cannot have that blackjack table. If they wish to run a charity event based on a gambling game, they'd have to obtain an event-by-event license from the State. Failure to do so would likely result in revocation of their liquor license.

    TBJ not EBJ

I wasn't thinking of an elimination format although it'd be interesting to see what the UBT would/could do if I did start an EBJ style pub league in the UK...

    Different rules and regulations everywhere...

Reachy, I sent you a PM about the tables in the night clubs and pubs and as Leftnut posted, running them is different all over.

Lots to know before trying to host any of these types of events.

Talk to me before doing anything or you maybe taking an unwanted vacation...LOL

    UK Pub TBJ League (UKPTBJL!)

Here are some links to the pub poker leagues over here. They don't have licensing problems because they only play for points, at least initially, and it is therefore not classed as gambling. Quite a few of the pubs around me advertise poker nights but none are members of leagues and they don't appear to have any legal problems at all (even though I know some of them play for money and aren't shy about it!)

I believe there are similar leagues in the US as well.

If (and it's a massive if) I ever tried to do anything over here it would be using this model.

    Cheers

The Gambling Act came into force on September 1st. I think this is one of the areas in which the law has been relaxed, allowing pubs etc. to host games in which money is at stake. I don't know the details though; e.g., maybe it was always legal so long as you didn't charge a fee, but now you can?

KB, is there a date set yet?

For many members this will be the first time for most of the BJT.com members get to see Simon (Reachy).

I am looking forward to seeing all the players again myself.

If someone has a DVD recorder, please make a copy for me to send to Reachy, I'm sure he get a kick out of showing this to his family and friends.

OK, folks, I taped the entire UBT season 2 for BJMace, but I don't get GSN and don't have a DVD recorder anyway.
Can someone else step up and help Reachy this time?
