This tournament had the best, most skill-friendly format of any I've ever played in all the years I've been playing this game. The tournament directors asked us to let the casino's top management know we liked it, to encourage them to continue offering this tournament in the future. For those of us who played, let's give a shout out to them on social media:

Thanks for posting the results, Monkeysystem. As you know, I left prior to final table.
Congrats to both James McNulty and Lakegirl!!!
Personally, even though my luck was TERRIBLE in both tourney play and open play, I thoroughly enjoyed this event.
I'll expand on that in another post.

    Thanks for posting Monkeysystem!
This was a very fun tournament - the format was different in that you had a lot of game play to make it to the next level. Great fun and also added in door prizes for suited BJ that were fun for all. The tournament was run well and was great to play one that you could use skill and not go with the "all in" mad dash! It was great seeing the many friends we have met over the years of playing! Please everyone leave a kind word on Island Resort and Casino facebook page if you agree, we want more of these!

    Thanks Billy!
Great seeing you, sorry the cards did not go your way!

  5. Did the casino kick in $10,000? I thought the prize pool was expected to be over $30,000? How many folks showed up?

They didn't fill out the maximum of 105 entries. I think they had maybe 75. If they kicked in $10K and 75 entries then that would account for $200 per entry to the prize pool.

I'm not sure who lakegirl32 is. If I know you please accept my apologies! In any case, congrats to you and jamesmcnulty for placing in the money.

As before, in the good old days of Kewadin events, it was great seeing everyone again. Let's hope for more nearby events in the near future.

Congrat mcnulty and lake girl. Monkey didn't advance after that good run? Was the young guy the poker player? If they didn't fill the 105 they could have had more re-buys. Seems like only flow in otherwise unique well run tourney. Tlourney staff, dealers and hotel people very accommodating.

I shared the semifinal table with Lakegirl and James.. and had to act first on the last hand. Stu was on my immediate left. James on my immediate right and Lakegirl on his right. I was not equal to the task...

The young guy was the poker player. A couple of his poker friends railed him on the final table.

I totally agree with noman's assessment of this event. Even though I had no luck, I would encourage others to play (hopefully) future events at this venue.
It was kind of a learning experience for most all of us BJT members because of the atypical (but very acceptable) format. Most important lesson was that if you want to have rebuy availability, enter as soon as allowed to assure a first flight seat. Rebuys weren't available to some wanting them.
In my message to Island Casino, I'm going to encourage them to change that (and I hope others do the same). Win Win for all as more rebuys make bigger purse.

I don't do facebook and I'd like to do this. The young lady that was part of the tourney staff, gave the casino website (islandresortandcasino.com) to me and said I could use it for this purpose. So far, I haven't been able to navigate. Any suggestions?

Billy, under "More+" near the top right of their web site is a "Contact Us" button. I used it to tell them how good I thought the tournament was and to encourage them to run more.

A note to all that attended and enjoyed the recent Island Casino bj tournament at Escanaba, MI.
I was at this casino on Tuesday of this week, and when spotting one of the people that ran the last event, I got his attention and asked how it looked for more bj tournaments there.
He told me they are in the plans and they want to do two per year, with the next one probably being in March 2023.
Let's all hope that this actually happens!
