When are you heading back?

I figured I would pose a question, if for nothing more than disturbing the tumbleweeds blowing through here lately.

As some casinos are starting to talk about reopening, are you planning to go back anytime soon?

For me personally, even before the coronavirus I was already planning on very few casino visits in 2020 while I focus on other things. That’s even more the case now. I don’t expect to set foot in a casino for quite a few months yet. You?

Buffalo Run to reopen tomorrow. I plan on going in near future. I will take motorhome so not stay in hotel. They are limiting numbers in, So waiting to be assured that I can get in door. Probably a 3 hour drive in my 35 year old Winnebago.

It will be hard to practice physical distancing and they need to figure out how to safely deal with chips. Not planning on going anytime soon.

Social distancing plans in Nevada will be for 3 players at blackjack tables (and carnival games... if opened), 4 at roulette and 6 at craps. Also, frequent cleaning of chips and dice. I agree with Gronbog and even with all procedures in place, I will be very picky for a long time as to which tournament venues I will attend. And then there's the airline flight.

I will go soon after re open, I guess. However, I plan on taking many precautions. The rate of infection has been well below 1% in this area, but we still need to be careful.
I wish you all good health!

I'm with Dakota! ASAP is right! Sucks that this coming Sat especially the TWO tourneys that were supposed to happen @ HR & Palace Station won't be happening!

As long as I protect myself by wearing a mask, I'd actually prefer just 3 ppl at the tables as historically I've won more with a max of 3 at the table anyway! So I'll be all over that 3 max like white on rice for sure.....

With this in mind, anyone got any VEGAS Blackjack tournament invites for June and beyond yet? If so, please post them!

As I am one of the at risk type (73) I have no plans to be in a casino for months.

I actually believe that this would be a good time for casinos to implement a screening process before people to go into a casino. At least fever checks (do not let them enter with a fever) and a few questions. I would prefer that they test anyone that shows any sign of being sick.

Like the TSA stuff people will get used to the testing process, as inconvenient as may be, and perhaps they will learn to not go to a casino if they are sick (or think they are getting sick).

I do not believe the casinos can keep people from congregating once they get inside

Unless you are wearing a n95 respirator mask you are not protecting yourself from the virus. Cloth masks help in not spreading your particles to others only. Still too risky for me.

I am an old coot. I loved Vegas in the 70's. For various reasons I stayed away for over twenty years. When I first went back in September 2001, it was close to the 70's because of the 2001 tragedy. I got in on the end of the heyday of blackjack tournament play, which other than video poker, which I came very late to, was the only advantage opportunity as the MBA's implemented optimal revenue strategies, across all spectrums of the casino experience. And thanks to many revealed advantage plays, the casinos enacted counter measures. Not a clubber, not a cuisine aficionado. My attraction to Vegas in the new age was blackjack tournaments. Other than those I did enjoy the "excitement" the crowds and hustle and bustle atmosphere, though by nature I am an anti social introvert.

My reading of safety precautions would make it impossible for the casinos to hold a cost effective blackjack tourney. And the safety precautions themselves would make it unhospitable to be in a casino, unless one were just a gambling addict. As anti social, I did enjoy encounters at the bars. Many interesting stories. Given restrictions, those would be near impossible.

So as things stand now, I am in no rush to experience this new Vegas, no matter casino or airline offers. I am sitting on an airline credit good till February 2021, but I feel that will be a forfeit.

While health and safety concerns are important, I am still active as an essential worker and have observed precautions, which in the new Vegas would be too cumbersome and intrusive to what my enjoyment of Vegas was.

Even a regional casino, corporate, or Indian, making an enticing tournament offering would present a difficult decision.

Either wear a mask or dont. There are multitudinous arguments on "what type" of mask protects and what doesn't which I won't be getting into with you. Believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want (and continue wearing my cloth mask), thanks.

Long story short, the moment I see the 1st posting of any tournament I can play in, namely the HR/Palace/Vegas ones, I'm there.

The report about Buffalo Run opening was 2 to 3 hour wait in line. I will not go until I can get in without wait and then only if they still have the good double deck. I also have that air ticket voucher expires Feb 2021.

Horseshoe Tunica, Harrah's Gulf Coast (Biloxi) and Hard Rock Biloxi are opening May 21st... all with previously discussed restrictions (no buffet, spacing at games tables and slots, etc.). Limited, or no, marketing promotions until they are re-issued. When blackjack tournaments at Hard Rock will resume is "unknown".

Many casinos in Las Vegas have a target date of June 1st to re-open, but this is unpredictable as the mayor is evasive and won't give a hard date yet.

In any case, for me these dates will be premature since my trips all require air travel which still have too many uncertainties.

I can't believe this is reality but a Vegas buddy just emailed what is supposedly an "internal memo" for MGM employees that shows some re opens (like Mandalay Bay) not happening until 2021.
    Call me a NON believer.

I saw that list a while back, and I think it showed Aria reopening in October 2021!
Since I can't find any references to this list on reputable media sites, I suspect it was not legitimate.

I do know that MGM has officially announced that they will only be opening a couple of casinos at first, likely NYNY and Bellagio.
I've seen the date June 1st bounced around for that.
But I do agree that it is possible that some MGM casinos in Vegas will not reopen this year.

Mississippi Boyd properties IP (Biloxi) and Sam's Town (Tunica) are opening Wednesday, May 20. So are Louisiana and other Boyd properties, excepting Nevada.
