Where is everyone staying in Jacksonville?

Here are a couple of hotels Jim Thomas told me about:

Jim recommends anyone needing a hotel, to book it with Carnival at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.

Cost is $136 (total for 2) and it includes transfers from Hotel to Pier. Cabs run $24-$30 from the airport to any Crowne <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]Jacksonville</ST1[IMG]Jacksonville hotel and approximately $25 from hotels to the pier. There is a great <st1:placeName w:st=" />Plaza close also. It runs less than the Hyatt.

I am not sure where everyone is staying or if they have booked their hotel yet. If possible we should all try and stay together if we want to get together the night before the cruise.

Everybody going on the cruise please post where you are staying (if you have already booked your hotel).

Flexible

Stormy and I are booked at the Clarion Hotel Airport but will switch to the Hyatt Regency Riverfront if most everyone is staying there (or wherever). It's only about $20 more for us to switch from the Clarion to the Hyatt. Only a couple more months to the cruise. Oh Yeah.

Yea, we have are fingers crossed!

We are going in August to try and go out and back before school starts (many of the players have children). We have our fingers crossed that we miss any bad weather.

I would love to be going out of Galveston, TX since I have to drive the tables and equipment to the ship. Last year to San Deigo and this year to Jacksonville, hell if we left from Galveston I wouldn't even have to leave the state...LOL

Like you said (Maxwell) maybe next year.

I was really hoping that we would have a lot bigger turnout this year, but then Harrah's scheduled their Millionaire Maker Finals the week of the cruise (talk about bad luck).

Still all and all we will have a great time and looking forward to seeing everybody. And good luck to all that made the MM finals.

Hyatt Riverfront

The website says they have no availablility for the night before the cruise so unless Carnival has all the rooms held, banking on the Hyatt might be a risky proposition. I looked at the Clarion airport and think it's fine. They have $99 park/cruise option for anyone wanting to leave their car there and escape the $12/day parking charge at the port. The $99/night fee for hotel room is supposed to include parking your car there for up to 14 days. I don't know about you but that nets out to $40 or so for the one night's stay. It appears to be fairly close to the port too.

However, hotels along the Riverfront would definitely be more picturesque and would probably offer close proximity to nicer restaurants.

I am flexible too.

How many people and what price range for group package?

Unfortunately my family and I will be out of town until Aug 15th, so we didnt sign up for the cruise.

However, Since we live in Ponte Vedra Beach (south Jacksonville Beach) I'll make some calls to GM's that I know in PVB and Jax Beach, but I'll need an approximate room count... 4, 10, 20 ish, and estimated price range. The people I know run the nicer hotels, Marriott Sawgrass (The Players Championship and PGA Headquarters), Serenata Beach Club (little further south but worth every mile and dollar), but they cut great deals when they can. Last event we did we paid around $140 per room @ a group rate and my wife and I pricelined 4 star and 5 star hotel for $125/night and got the Sawgrass a few times. Normally rooms are $350+ per. It might be more then most want to pay but I will say they are nice with great relaxing Florida flavor with multiple pools, beach clubs, spa's, etc. I recommend checking in early and checking out late to enjoy the amenities.

If you just want a place to stay that is more reasonable, I'll check a few of the beach hotels - prices will probably be $60 to $90/night, but you'll be on the beach, and have lots of restraunts and shops to see.

I wish I was going to be in town. Even if I didnt cruise, I'd set up a BJ tourney in Jax for you all to expose this exciting game the local poker players, and I'd offer up the spare bedrooms to you fine folks. Maybe on the flip side?

Let me know - Im in town for 1 more week and can do some local research.

From what I heard most players want to stay here. Friday before the cruise we can all get together for dinner and maybe go on one of the gambling boats or set up a table in the room for some sit and go tournaments.

Either way we should have a great time before and during the cruise.

Only 62 more days till the cruise deports Jacksonville.

Hi Soozziec

I'm planning on staying at the Jacksonville Hyatt Riverfront. That was the suggested hotel from the cruise line and the travel agent.

I've never been to Jacksonville before so I am just going from their advise.

Be sure to check my previous post with discount links for the Hyatt.

Possible Biloxi stay over

As of now Swog and I are planning to leave Texas on August 9th and possiblly stay over in Biloxi that night and on to Jacksonville on the 10th. We thought we would like to get there an extra day early to checkout the city.

Anyone esle driving is more than welcome to hook up with us in Biloxi and we can all convoy down to Jacksonville together.

Need a Plan B

I checked all the links TX posted and the Hyatt site and found that there are no rooms available for August 10 & 11 at all. I then called the hotel directly and was told that the hotel is fully booked on those dates and the reservations person said that Carnival does not have a block of rooms reserved.

If someone finds that this information is inaccurate, please let us know. I think we may need to come up with an alternate site though.

Okay, let's try this...

I called up the Jacksonville Travelers Bureau and found the closest hotel to the Carnival termanal is:

The Holiday Inn Express
10148 New Berlin Rd.
Jacksonville, FL 32226

Phone number is: 1-904-696-3333

They have pently of rooms for either August 10th or 11th and if you tell them your with Texas Tournaments the rates will be $79.00 per night.

Shuttle to the terminal will only be $5 per person and is only about 3 shuttle ride from the hotel.

This seems to be the best price and by far the closest hotel to the Carnival termanal. :D

I'm reserving my room there today.

PS. I will put on some Sit & Go events in the room on the 11th if we don't all go on the gambling ship...LOL

Moved to Holiday Inn Express

Hi all, Stormy and I have changed our reservation and are now staying at the Holiday Inn Express. We hope to see everyone on the evening of the 11th for drinks/dinner/gambling. thrasht

Parking for the cruise.

No parking is allowed at the Holiday Inn Express while on the cruise. Parking at the Cruise Terminal is $10.00 per day.

Still all in all, I believe we come out cheaper than the other hotels we first check on.
