If you not sure 100 percent come to the tournament, like me, I suggest buy in on the day before the tournament or on the tournament day because non refund

I have played the last hand of the semi-finals twice and estimate that they were over about 7:30. Fina:)ls are then played until about 10 p.m., after which they travel to Dallas immediately, to return to Winstar on Sunday p.m.

Wish I could help you, Packin, but I honestly didn't notice the time as the May tournament progressed.
I bow to Springbac's better comprehension of time passage during that event.

If you are fortunate enough to make the final table and the reality TV show taping, don't even think about getting out of town (by air) on Sunday night. Just reschedule your flight for Monday morning.

yeah, I understand that part,..and I hope I DONT have to make the flight to CA, but should I blow out early, I need it as a Plan B, so to speak.

appreciate the input all the same

Still looking for some roomies to share a cabin

I rented a cabin that’s 14 miles from the casino for June and shared it with four other players. I have it reserved for the July 11th tourney and have plenty of room available to share with anyone who's interested. It sleeps five comfortably and would be $400 for Thursday through Monday. If we have five to share then it would be just $80 each for the whole trip. Let me know if your interested. It comes with a full kitchen and satellite TV. If anyone is interested we must finalize our plans buy the end of Tuesday July 8th.

    Winstar qualifiers, by the way....

Wow, I just heard that ALL the qualifiers for the Winstar event will have to come back in late July for some additional filming. This is a MUST or forfeit their seat.

Now the fact the casino isn't paying for the out of town players air is bad enough for this last minute game change, but I was also told that one of the winners has a chance to be bumped from the August finals in some type of Reality show challange.

From what I heard from a few of the winners is this is something they just let the players know about.

Most of the winners have been locals from about an hour and a half away, but I know two winners from far away, (1-Michigan, & 1-Seattle) so that's about an extra $500 in airfares they didn't know about.

I understand their concern, but I'd be willing to trade with any of them that don't want to make the trip...LOL.

There is a rumor going around the "reality show challenge" will be eating freshly cut testicles from a 10 year old goat. Good luck! LOL.

HEY!!!! Was that a NUT joke?????? :D

Barney, I'll have to lean on your experience for that challenge. Hot sauce or ala mode?

When it comes to this situation in a reality challenge its best to hope the old saying "sometimes you feel like a nut" is true. A few drops of Tapatio Sauce and some salt could come in handy, hint hint. :)

    5th and final qualifier

I was told yesterday that Winstar was down to only 40 remaining entry chips for sell, but then today I was informed they still have over 100 chips left for todays final qualifier.

So it looks like basicly the same format structure as last month.

Good luck to everybody playing and I hope I'm lucky enough to be one of the final six tonight (along with 5 other members from here).

    congrats to wa. state players

(wtg, red hook and uncle abe, both from everett, wa. for taking 1st and 3rd today at winstar. now, that puts three everett players at the finals next month. quite a showing from this area. really proud of you guys!!!!!

great job from leiahy, making the semis, only to get beaten out on an all in bet twenty, as the dealer drew to a 21. or we could have had 4 players from this area in the finals. i was able to inform all at iron horse tonite during the tourney, so they all were proud of what you guys did!!!!! see ya when you get back. ( jim stockton won tonite.) kind of pale to your winnings big t.!!!!!

    Congrats indeed!!!!!

Yes, indeed, congratulations to Redhook and Uncle Abe for such awesome finishes in a tough format. :1st: :3rd:

Now they're dealing with the "reality show" taping, which will be one of the most bizarre experiences they've ever had & can't talk about! I'll be looking forward to meeting both of you in a couple of weeks. as well as seeing Howie again.

Congrats also (and condolences) to leilahy for getting Oh So Close.......

    hey leftnut

yes, the gang did well. pretty amazing that out of the five that went, three made it to the finals. guess i should not be too shocked, i play against these players daily. i know that this area produces some of the best bj tourney players anywhere. they, as yourself will do well in the finals.

well, off to of the grind of two tourneys today. not quite the excitment and glizt that redhook and uncle abe are experiencing. just another day at the tables.

Well, despite going 0 for 4, I had a lot of fun with these monthly trips to Texas. I'm sorry that I didn't have a chance to meet most of you for the Thursday night dinners, but it was a lot of fun to meet so many of you in person at Winstar, and if we are fortunate, we may have a chance to do it all again next year.

Good luck to those of you either in the finals or with horses in the finals.

    question

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY PLAY AT WINSTAR
I FEEL I AM A BETTER PLAYER THEN THAT
I THINK I KNOW WHAT MY PROBLEM IS-I AM FAILING TO MAKE MY CATCH UP BETS DUE TO NON FOCUS
MY QUESTION IS WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET YOURSELF OUT OF A RUT AND PLAY UP TO YOUR LEVEL OF PLAY OUT OF THE 3 ATTEMPTS I DID NOT MAKE IT PAST THE 2ND ROUND HOWEVER MY WIFE MADE THE SEMI FINALE 2 OUT OF THREE TIMES (MY EGO IS TOTALLY DEFLATED)
I AM VERY DISCOURAGED WITH TOURNY PLAY ANY WORDS OF WISDOM WOULD BE WELCOMED:eek::eek:

    Keep on plugging

Maxwell, I think you have reached a a point in which it seems that in spite of all your attempts, there is generally a negative reaction to your play. This happens to me quite often. Case-point This past weekend I played in two tournaments where two advance from the first round and the re-buy round. I played 3 rounds and did not advance in either. I was so disgusted with my play that I did not even rebuy in the 2nd tourney. ( I might add that I was playing against the "MASTER, KEN SMITH", and had him on the ropes with his all in 3800+, and he squirms out with a 4 or 5 card 20 on the 29th hand of 30" Way to go Ken.
We seem to remember when the negative events control our play much more often than the positive. How often do you hear, "I Would have won that round if the dealer didn't draw to 21, have a BJ, push my 20, etc".

My reaction is to try and learn from my mistakes, give the devil his due, and prepare for the next tourney. Once I leave the casino, I am looking forward to the next tourney.
Keep at it. Good things will happen.

Mike, you're right about having me on the ropes... You had the lead that hand and a good starting hand of 11 while I think I had a starting hand of 5. I certainly didn't expect to swing you on that hand!

Maxwell, the one certainty in blackjack tournaments is frustration. I actually took a break from playing a while back, and it did wonders for my state of mind and level of enjoyment. I was playing a lot of events, and was on a pretty bad streak. It seems like I was advancing to the semifinals in nearly every event, but could never close the deal.

I didn't stop playing entirely, but I scaled back and played only a handful of events in about six months. After that brief hiatus, I have been back at the tables more recently. While I haven't made a final table yet this year, I'm enjoying the game again, and I'm playing well.

I'll finish with a story that follows up on FMike756's account. In the next round of this tournament, one player advanced from a table of five.
My table lost two wildcat bettors by mid-round, so it was down to me and two ladies who quite obviously weren't all that familiar with tournament blackjack. They had both been comped into the tournament from their slot play.

After the countdown, I'm in last place but not by much. I lose all three of my catch-up bets and bust out with two hands left to play. I didn't hang around to watch the final hand, but I hear that the leader bet a minimum $25 bet from her lead of around $600. The other lady bet $200 and the match was over before the cards were even dealt. I couldn't have drawn an easier table in the whole event. Oh well.

You just can't let things like that get you down. Successes are so rare at tournament blackjack that you have to be able to conquer the negativism and just get back out there and play.
