Idle misaligned thoughts in passing.
Among many other positives, the new UBT has an open entry. No limit of enteries and I presume, up to start of tourney entry.
Contrast: Certain casino's offer tourney's with either gauranteed prizes or prizes based on number of entries. BUT, if by the casino's predetermined date enough entries have not been received, the casino cancels or post pones the event. I guess, basing their decision on past experience that the walk up or last minute entries will not satisfy their goal.
Contrast: Other casino's set a predetermined number of entries(even figuring rebuys) and once that number is reached....they are sold out.
In the first case, why not run the event based on entries. In the second, why not run the event with add-ons and increase the money pool.
My best guess is that if it's not in the tournament director's manual of applied tournament procedure, it's not possible.
To be specific: I go to register for the advertised Majestic Star 100,000 event three days before it starts and it's postponed, indefinately. Though all the advertising is still up.
Then, he who hesitates, is lost, I decide at last minute to try for Tunica Grand and by Thursday evening, it's sold out. But were rooms just sold out, were tables overloaded, not enough dealers, not enough time for more players or just Harrah's?
As a side note, I hope that guy from the Chicago suburbs kicks A** at the Grand. It would give me a vicarious thrill.
