Revisions to Wong's page 131

A simulation is likely required. I started to work on configuring it when the thread was revived a few weeks ago, but found a problem in my software. I dont have time to investigate right now. Perhaps in a week or two.

A recent thread started by rounder21 mentioned this table in Wong's Casino Tournament Strategy, and I noted there that my research disagrees with Wong on many entries in that table.

As my contribution today to the new kinder, gentler, more useful BJT, here is a table of the values I calculated using infinite deck H17.

Here's the situation:
BR2 has $100, and goes all-in.
BR1 has $110, and matches the $100 bet.

The cards are dealt, and BR2 has completed his action. All BR1 must do is have exactly the same or better outcome as BR2. Win/win, push/push, or lose/lose.

Here are the totals to which BR1 should hit, based on the dealer upcard and BR2's hand total.

Rather than fight with table formatting, I've just included the information as an image instead.

Let's say BR2 stood with 19 (soft or hard, doesn't matter), and the dealer has a ten up.
You have a soft 17. What should you do?

The soft totals table for this situation shows that you should hit to a soft 19 or better.

Let's say you hit once, and draw an Ace for soft 18. You should hit again. Let's say you now draw a 7 for a hard 15. (A,6,A,7). What now?

Now the hard totals table applies. Look up BR2=19,Dlr=T, and you'll see that you should hit to a hard total of 14 or higher. Since you have hard 15, you should stand.

I believe your reference to page 131 is actually Table 5 titled "BR1 Stands On These Totals If Win Both Ways". In my book, it's page 133.
