History of the secret bet?

Hi,

UBT said that they have introduced the secret bet in tournaments but there are a couple of pages about the secret bet in Wong's book. Is it something that disappeared many years ago and have just reappeared? Or is it still used in some non-EBJ tournaments? Was the "old" secret bet rule different than the "new" one?
 
The secret bet has been around for a long time, but was still fairly uncommon until UBT launched. The addition of the secret actions is, to my knowledge, completely new with UBT.
