It looks like each of the preliminary "rounds" are broken up into a combination of timed sessions and one final session with a fixed number of hands. Sort of like one long elimination round broken up into segments.

Maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in, but that's how I read it.

Registered last Wed. Arrive early Sat. Room Sat nite. Like more insight on format, without anyone giving away strategy.
Look forward to seeing you and some other oldtimers. By that I mean long time players.

  6. Billy C, How did you do at the Soo bj tournament. Was it fun? Also what are the blackjack games like there now. I heard they were mostly continuous shufflers. Any DD games?

While we're at it, what are the games like at the Island Casino?

I was lucky enough to take 4th place ($532). It was a good SMALL tournament. Purse started at 5k and they kicked in 75% of re entry money so, 1st paid 2200 and change, second 1100+, 3rd 800+, 4th and 5th both paid 532 (don't ask me why my 4th wasn't worth more than 5th) and 6th paid 272.
I think total original entries were between 45 and 50.
Well ran like events have typically been there.
No 2 deck games since the start of covid and ALL of the 6 deck shoes use continuous shuffle machines.

I can't really answer that, but 3 or 4 years ago I watched the shoe games there for a while and I've not seen worse penetration anyplace ever. I swear they were cutting very close to the middle of 6 decks. Could be a small exaggeration but it was really bad at that time.
    Hopefully, that has changed.

  14. I haven't played at the Island Casino since 2006, but at that time they had double deck, 4 deck, and 6 deck blackjack along with Spanish 21. The games were S17. In checking their web site they say they still have Spanish 21. My latest copy of CBJN is from Oct 2021 and it lists 1 table of 2 deck and 3 tables of 6 deck blackjack with S17 games.

Gronbog, if you are coming from Canada thru the Soo maybe you will want to checkout Tahquamenon Falls if you want to make a vacation out of the trip. It is not that far out of the way.

Does it say anything about penetration and/or hand shuffle vs CSM/ASM?

We all know how things change but last time I observed BJ games there, I don't think there were either CSMs or ASMs (all hand shuffled 6 deck shoes) but the pen was as I said above. More than difficult to make 50-60% pen into a viable game.

  18. I agree with Billy C. I don't think any of the games are csm's since CBJN no longer lists games if they are csm's. Anyway, my Oct 2021 CBJN lists the pen on the 6 deck game at 2.1 and the 2 deck game at .9

  19. Well, how did everybody do in the Island casino blackjack tournament? Did anybody from this forum make it to the final table? Was it a good and fun tournament?

Darn, just missed winning a car in the Stars and Cars leader board contest. Missed it by just two places, but it was exciting anyway.
