Worth Suggesting As Toolman1 suggests, the chances of event planners working together are remote. Even so, I would ask those that play Tunica events to make suggestions along these lines for future tourneys. The worst they can say is no! I think that I would drive down and play both if they were "piggybacked" but will probably pass on both being they aren't (720 miles) Billy C
I just thought of something, Adolf (Fitz) use to worked at Gold Strike about a year or so ago, he should know the marketing personel at the Gold Strike still. I wonder if the Gold Strike didn't plan their event to compete with the Fitz that weekend? Didn't the Grand just book an event on the same date as the big IP tournament in Biloxi just several months back? Seems like as small as Tunica is they would be able to check on the other properties events and not double book tournaments on the same dates.
I don't know if the same philosophy is carried over to blackjack but both the Grand and the Gold Strike are holding a series of big (think WPT & WSOP circuit events) poker tournaments during the same time frame (Jan 3-23) next month.
Further details have been provided about playing times at the Fitz event: 1/25 Registration and pool party 1/26 1st round 9, 10, 11 am 2nd round 1, 2, 3 pm Rebuys 5, 6 pm 1/27 Wild card 8:45 am Semi final 10 am Final Table noon
Making the Fitz. Ken : Helen & I plan to be there. (reservations made) . Several of us from south Ar. ,Shreveport & east Tx. area plan to be there. see you there-----The Farmer
I'm curious about something. Are they depending primarily on word-of-mouth on this site to draw the players for this tournament? I get their monthly mailing and nothing is ever mentioned about a BJT. Also, their web site is completely void of any tournaments - the tournament section reads "coming soon", whatever that means. Are they doing any advertising in the casino itself?
advertising the Fitz They have 2 billboards advertising this tournament and it is in their Jackpot magazine advertisement. However I have seen nothing in mailouts. They could definitely do a better job of getting the word out.
Fitz mailings I just got a mailer today, but it sure is late to be getting them out. Wish I could be there but it is probably not going to work this time. What a crappy thing that the Gold Strike pulled by scheduling a tournament at the same time. But I like the Fitz format much better.
And Tex schedualed his cruise at the same time as the other events, this makes 3 events drawing from the same player base.
Seems to me like both casinos have scheduled tournaments for the last weekend in January (the weekend before the Superbowl) in years past. I know for sure Fitz had one last year, and Goldstrike had one the year before.
fitz entries Just came from the Fitz, and at 6:30 pm I was told there were 138 paid entries. They want 150 to guarantee the $75,000 payout. Should have that or more by tournament time.
I was just speaking on the phone with Fuzzy at The Fitz. He said including mine they now have 160 entries. I was disappointed to find that Southwest doesn't fly to Memphis, other carriers avg $1050 vs approx $375. But I'll be there, only 700 miles to go. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Great suggestion since Southwest often has substantially lower fares than the competition. If one would fly to Memphis then a car rental is almost necessary anyway so the extra cost of diving from Little Rock should not be that much. I can't make the Fitz tournament but this suggestion warrants looking into for my next trip to Tunica. Thanks deltaduke.
I too would like to thank deltaduke for the suggestion. Early on I did consider flying into Jackson and renting a car but Little Rock slipped by me. Moot point now as I have decided to stay a few days at Harrah's in St Louis on my return trip and see some friends. Thanks again.
I'll be there, too! I'll be at the Fitz tourney too. Made my reservation last night about 8 pm. Nothing like working things out at the last minute! The host I spoke with said the rooms were filling up fast, but did not mention how many total players were now registered. Looking forward to meeting other members!
Congrats to sweetteabird! Real quick note: sweetteabird, as she is known on bet21, won this weekend's Tunica tournament. There were about 180 players including some heavy hitters (BJ Pros). sweetteabird was the only female at the final table, and won the 1st place prize of $31,960! It came down to the last dealer draw card. More details later on. Congrats sweetteabird!!!
Which Tournament? By Tunica, do you mean Fitz or Gold Strike? Can anyone post results for both? Thanks in advance! Billy C
