Billy When we played in the April tourment at Tama, they did not have the date set for thier fall tournment, and we told a couple of people there to avoide the weekend they ended up choosing because they would be up against St. Ignace. I always have my St. Ignace calander with me . I don't want to miss what few tournments we have available close to us.
Ignace Monkey, I am happy you also appreciate the magic of this place and area. It is not just the fine BJ, for me it was always more, it is where my spirit rests. CP
Were they listening? That is my recollection also. Along with many of us informing the staff at Tama that we didn't like the unlimited bets it's making me wonder! Billy C
Yes they listened ... ... but unfortunately they had turn over at Meskwaki and the listener is no longer in charge of the tournament, not sure if they are still an employee. By the sounds of it Meskwaki is merely keeping the promise to the locals to have a Large October Tournament. This is all grapevine, I have no first hand information but I consider the source reliable. Another Vote for St. Iggy too bad no refunds. EE
TAMA for Jonny21 Seeing how that is the only choice for me. As some of you know, I was 86ed after the fall 2008 tournament in St. Ignace. At that event, I put in the 2 hours at the balckjack table, but not much more, as I had my wife with me and we did other fun, fall things around St. Ignace. Also, I don't play any slots and am a "skilled" blackjack player. I still wonder if that had anything to do with not being invited back. I am a native son of the U.P. and love St. Ignace, but they don't love me any more. Tama, for those of you who have not been there, is also a very pretty place, in the rolling hills of central Iowa. I am expecting that the fall color shold be very nice by the first weekend in October, the blackjack conditions are not terrible, and the casino, staff, and rooms were nice at the April event. Jonny
Just to clarify, "86ed" and "not invited back" are generally two different things. Do you mean: 1) You no longer receive invitations to the tournament. 2) You are no longer allowed to play the tournament. 3) You are no longer allowed to play blackjack. 4) You are no longer allowed on the property.
86ed -vs not being invited back. Hey Ken, just #1 and # 2, thankfully. It could always be worse, ay?:bomb:
So are any of our BJT.com friends going to Ignace instead of Tama/Meskwaki? Deb and I will be at Tama, our friend Bruce (DRSLYR) won't be at either one due to work schedule conflicts, and I have talked to a couple of other folks who usually do Ignace but will be in Tama.
Hope they have people With LeftNut, Deb, Monkey and his wife, Bruce and me that's about 5% drop right there and probably others I'm not aware of. Let's hope they get enough regulars to keep that fine event going at St. Ignace! Billy C
Right on, BillyC I echo Billy's hope that they get entrants, although I don't think they'll have a problem getting enough to make it go. On the other hand, lately they've been acting rather uppity about who they "allow" to play, so maybe a significant migration of their regular entrants to the meskwaki event will wake somebody up. Plus, during the last one, there was some rather stunningly unprofessional treatment we saw and received on the casino floor, outside of the tournament itself. At the first Meskwaki BJT, every single staffer in the place was friendly and acting like they were truly glad we were there. Don't get me wrong, Ignace has treated Deb and I quite nicely - for example, a great room upgrade this last time because it was her birthday weekend, as well as her "Silver Award" from last year's BJ Player of the Year which came with $200 and a real crystal trophy. I simply wish they'd back off from behaving like they're the only kid in the neighborhood who owns a baseball and a bat.
Lot of players going to Tama I've heard of several players coming from Washington and lots of the St. Louis Mafia that are going to play the Tama tournament. I haven't heard of anyone going to the St. Ignace event, yet anyway. Wish I could make this one, sounds like a great event with lots of great players and friends attending. Good luck to all.
Jonny Mr. 21 Johnny, They have nothing against you just want more action at the tables,,, slots. I know some real regular regulars that were denied entry. I love Ignace but they do some strange things, very often. This is not Deanns fault but casino policy, they always pick action players first and me and the wife give them non-stop action which allows us into any tourney we please. The Sault will have a bJ tourney in Febuary, but sadly many of the dealers there are the most peculiar I have ever experienced. But the VP there is top notch. All in all Kewadin is a very fair group of casinos, that has shown me a very good time for many years. But Eh'...Tama looks real good too. CP
St. Ignace Hey C.P. Hope to see you at Tama. I would be interested in hearing about some of these peuliar dealers at the Soo. I talked to one of the regulars here about going up to St. Ignace and running some $$ thru the 9/6 VP machines to see if that gets me back on the invite list. I see that there are strategy tables available online for a VP novice like me that cut the edge to about .5% I found an interesting table with a breakdown of the 99.5% payout shows where the "meat" of the payout occurs (2 Pair 25.85%, 3 of a kind 22.3%, Pair 21.4%, and full house 10.3%) The royal flush adds 1.98% to the return, so you definitely need to get one once in a while, ay?
Hey, Jonny21 - Lookin' forward to seeing you again, at Tama! If you want to learn video poker strategy and you're going to be playing for $-coin stakes ($5 per hand), it'd be well worth your time and money to invest in one of the trainer software programs. The oldest and simplest (yet incredibly accurate) one that I recommend is WinPoker. That's what I use. There is also Jean Scott's Frugal Video Poker and Bob Dancer's Video Poker for Winners, both slightly more expensive but with many more bells and whistles - like the ability to print charts of play strategy for many different variations. In the case of Dancer's VPW, I was one of the beta-testers for it and was astounded at all of the extra stuff it has over something bare-bones like WinPoker. Your corrected mistakes will earn back the cost of any of these programs in no time flat, especially at the $ level. I think you can get 'em all through Ken, here on this site somewhere. And - no, I don't make a dime from the sale of any of 'em!!!
Oops! Just noticed that we forgot to put St. Ignace tourney (Oct. 2-4) on calendar and I don't have details. Can someone help with that? Billy C
Good Luck to you and your Better Half, too, Pill! Looks like you're carrying the banner for all of us this time at Ignace. Go Get 'Em!!!
